Superman and Lois “Into Oblivion” Roundtable

We are back after a random time off for no reason at all, Superman and Lois is back with episode 8, “Into Oblivion”, and so are Clare and I for another roundtable.

Superman and Lois  “Into Oblivion” Synopsis

Lois (Elizabeth Tulloch), Clark (Tyler Hoechlin), and Natalie (Tayler Buck) notice a difference in John Henry (Wole Parks)’s behavior and fear something might be very wrong; Kyle (Erik Valdez) encounters an awkward moment with Lana (Emmanuelle Chriqui) while stopping by the house to pick Sarah (Inde Navarrette) up for school.

What did you think during that opening scene?

C: Oh that was hard to watch. For it to be Nat saying “that’s not mom” to John Henry instead of the other way around, must have been so hard for her.

PB: I mean it is already awkward and tension filled but then for John to think Lois is his Lois?!?!? I can’t wait to see how they work this one out.

So Jonathan (Jordan Elsass) is being homeschooled and still wont give up his girlfriend as a drug dealer. Do you think he will ever give her up?

PB: I think he is too far gone in his lie now for it to even matter. I am sure it will come out eventually. I have a feeling something is going to have to be very bad for this to pass.

C: He’s a fool for love. Literally. I know she said she loved him but I don’t truly think she does. I think she’s mostly using him for his status on the football team and will be interested to see if she stays with him now the rest of the season has been canceled. Maybe that will push him to give her up.

So Ally (guest star Rya Kihlstedt) and Mitchell (Ian Bohen) put the pendants together and decided to go to the other side. But things don’t work out as planned because Superman showed up. Do you think they lived or do you think they are gone forever?

C: Oh I think Mitchell “made it through” and I think we are in for some SERIOUS trouble once his merged self comes back. On a related note…how annoying was it that they put everyone in those suits so it was literally impossible to know who was who? I was so confused by that entire scene!

PB: I think they are alive but I am not sure they are the same anymore. If they “merge” with their other selves they won’t be the same.

Nat is not happy living with Clark/Superman as he reminds her of the Superman that killed her mom. Do you think her fear of her father dying by Superman is valid?

PB: I don’t. I think she is still grieving and she is kinda lost. She is in a new world. Everything is the same yet different.Clark is an easy target to focus her anger on instead of her focusing on her life.

C: Absolutely not, certainly not “our” Clark. Maybe if Bizarro had lived it would have been a different story, but she definitely has nothing to fear from “our” Clark. It’s still understandable, since she did watch someone who looked identical to the man in whose house she is now living kill her mother. I think it’s really sweet though that Clark helped find another place for her and John Henry to live for now. He really, genuinely wants to help (which I hope will show her that he’s not the same as the Clark on her world).

Superman and Lois - Into Oblivion

Lana is having her husband help with her debate prep. Do you think they will work it out?

C: I really hope so. He still desperately loves her, and will do whatever it takes. She needs time, as do the rest of the family, and I hope they will get there by the end of the season.

PB: I think loves her and feels bad about what he did but she isn’t ready to forgive him yet. She is really hurt and needs time to heal. But I think even if she does heal, she may never forgive him.

Superman and Lois - Into Oblivion

Jonathan walks Candace (Samantha di Francesco) home and the “drug dealer” decides to stop them. A fight breaks out and Jordan has to come to the rescue.  Do you think now that Jordan knows the truth he will be able to get Jonathan to confess?

PB: I would like to say yes but I think they might fight more now.

C: Yeah, I think it’ll lead to more fights between them as Jonathan is going to get pissed off at his brother constantly nagging him to tell the truth.

And since Jordan was helping his brother, he missed his dinner date with his girlfriend and the girl she kissed. Don’t you think he should have at least called instead of just not going?

C: Of course he should have called. A simple “sorry, family emergency, can we reschedule?” would have been all it needed. Instead he let Sarah down, and potentially pushed her closer to Aubrey (guest star Djouliet Amara).

PB: I totally think he should have called but I think this issue is going to keep coming back up. Their trust is broken much like Sarah’s parents.

The episode ends with Lois’s sister (guest star Jenna Dewan) drugging their dad, so she could free Ally from the DOD. Did you see that coming?

PB: I was shocked. I didn’t think she would do that to her own father. I am really hoping Superman comes in and saves the day but this cult is strong.

C:  I  was shocked, I really actually believed that Lois had managed to get through to her sister over the whole Ally thing.
