Star Trek – Discovery Casting News: We Have A New Captain
Star Trek – Discovery casts a new Captain and a new Chief Engineer-both for ships other than The Discovery!
Captain Christopher Pike of the U.S.S. Enterprise, yes, THAT Enterprise, will be played by Anson Mount (@AnsonMount).
Now Capt Pike, as all trekkies and people with google know, is the captain who precedes Capt Kirk on the Enterprise. Nothing has been announced about how this captain will interact with the Discovery but record shows that guest captains shake things up and not necessarily in a good way. Although I can’t imagine Discovery’s sister ship and future THAT ship being anything but helpful. Though it will be interesting how Pike will interact with Alt Universe Georgiou.
Previously on Star Trek – Discovery
As you all may recall last season ended with the Discovery being captained by the evil doppleganger of Phillipa Georgiou in an attempt to out smart the Klingons. Personally I see this as a step in the very wrong direction for the crew of the Discovery. They already experienced the greatest betrayals in Ash and Lorca but I don’t write the show, I just report on it. She’s not the friendly captain that Pike may have known so their dynamic is sure to cause some teeth to grind!
Anson has previously been in Marvel’s Inhumans and he was the dude in everyone’s favorite movie starring Britney Spears, Crossroads.
Anson says he’s always wanted to be a part of the Star Trek family so this is a dream come true.
Welcome To Disco Cap. We’re glad you’re here!
Another New Face
Also joining the show in season 2 is Tig Notaro (@TigNotaro). She is best known from her show One Mississippi on Amazon.
She will play chief engineer of the U.S.S. Hiawatha. No details have been given about her role or how many episodes she will appear in but with her dry comedy she will surely light up the screen with anyone she plays against.
Season 2 begins filming at the end of this month and is due to debut sometime in 2019.
