Now the story of Romeo and Juliet has been read by many people including myself from an early age at school as part of your school lives and some students will have had to do this as part of their exams. We are going to look at Baz Luhrmann’s take on the whole tale, which is pretty awesome as it updates the scenery, weapons and of course music but it keeps the Whole Shakespearian language alive.
Romeo is played by Leonardo DiCaprio and Juliet is played by Claire Danes and in this version the warring families live in the suburb of Verona Beach and can be seen in Hawaiian shirts driving cars and toting guns, from my point of view the families are portrayed like Mafia Gangs. These Mafia style Families have big named actors playing the heads and with Brian Dennehy and Paul Sorvino bringing in their father figure like presence you can not complain at how the family do maintain their warring presence.
We all know the story pretty well, so I will cut straight to the point of the soundtrack because it is an updated version and the music is to keep that interest. With songs that reflect the updated time and by bands who at its release were quite popular you will now see why we have chosen this particular film for this weeks column.
Crush by Garbage
Lovefool by The Cardigans
Local God by Everclear
Whatever by Butthole Surfers
and one of my favourite songs is
Young Hearts Run Free by Kym Mazelle
Thank you all and I hope you have enjoyed, see you next time.
