Soundtrack Sunday: Home Alone (1990) and Home Alone 2: Lost In New York (1992)

This week for soundtrack Sunday the last Sunday before Christmas 2015, I am bringing you the sounds of The 2 films that scream out Christmas and family woes. In 1990 we followed the story of Little Kevin McCallister, the youngest in his family and the one who felt the most put out by the rest of his family, especially at Christmas when his parents plan a huge vacation for themselves and their brother’s family, 14 travelling in total so the night before when all are in one house, hell breaks loose when Kevin’s older Brother Buzz eats the only Pizza Kevin can have and fakes puking it up, making Kevin Furious and lashing out making him get sent to his room, where he wishes his family would disappear!

When a power cut makes the alarms all reset the whole family is late when travelling to the airport, unknowingly Kevin is still asleep in the bedroom in the loft and is left behind, the poor 8 year old starts off thinking this is fun until two pesky villains start to burgle the neighbourhood and Kevin has to defend his home. The songs they use for this film are amazing as they use some of the traditional Christmas song and it really fits in well with the film.
Home Alone 2:Lost in New York takes place a year later when the family plans their next holiday, again they all spend the night in the same house before, but this year there is a carol concert that some of the family are a part of, including Kevin with an amazing solo, which is Ruined by Buzz when he messes around behind him and humiliates him and again Kevin lashes out and hits his brother causing all of the choir to fall down, Kevin is sent to his room and punished for something he felt wasn’t his fault. The alarms fail again due to a plug being unplugged and resetting them so they are again at a rush to get to the airport, Kevin this time makes it, but due to the run at the airport, Kevin follows the wrong man and due to bumping into the ticket lady is allowed onto the wrong flight, making him fly to new York when his family travel to Miami.

Kevin again finds fun in using the money and cards from his dad’s bag and books himself a suite in a hotel as he does the tourist thing in New York. His fun is ruined when simultaneously the hotel find out the cards are flagged and the arrival of the 2 pesky villains who have broken out of jail. It’s up to Kevin to save the day as he discovers that a huge Toy store who would donate money to a children’s hospital are the target. Again the songs are amazingly seasonal and fit well with the action happening in the film.
