So after a weekend of geeking out at a local comic, film and TV signing event, I was inspired to do a film that I love, the reason I chose this film is I was able to get an autograph and picture with William Sadler and it was just a great way to inspire this week’s choice. I have chosen Disturbing Behaviour (1998) and I love this film and its darker take on fitting in at school.
It all starts when Steve Clark (James Marsden) moves with his family to a new town after his brother Commits suicide and forces the family to move to forget and move on. They move to Cradle Bay Island and Steve starts at the local High School, Cradle Bay High and makes friends with Gavin (Nick Stahl) and Rachel (Katie Holmes) who are the misfits of the school. Gavin lets Steve know who sits where at the school showing the same groups we saw in Films such as the Breakfast club, but here they have an elitist group called the Blue ‘Ribbons’.
As we get deeper into the film we see that the Blue Ribbons are not all they seem and I don’t want to spoil it for those who do want to see the film. The Blue Ribbons have the Jocks and cheerleaders, but some did not start that way, With Chug (AJ Buckley) and Andy (Tobias Mehler) throwing their weight around and the schools Guidance councillor Dr Edgar Caldicot (Bruce Greenwood) endorsing them all the time, it’s up to them and the school Janitor Dorian Newbury (William Sadler) to work out what is going on and save the day.
The music for this film suits the situation and the genre teenage music that isn’t boring or happy as the situation isn’t. So I give you this week’s soundtrack Sunday: Disturbing Behaviour, please enjoy the tracks I pick out for you and please have a watch of the film if you haven’t already, trust me when I say it is an excellent watch.
The original Score by Mark Snow
Every Little Thing Counts by Janus Stark
Got You (Where I Want You) by The Flys
And this last song is used in the film but not on the soundtrack it’s Flagpole Sitta by Harvey Danger.
