Shadowhunters – What Lies Beneath Spoiler Free Preview

Okay, guys, I’m going to apologise right now because there is not going to be a whole hell of a lot I can say without utterly ruining the episode, so this might be quite short. I will try my best though. Are you ready? It’s time for my Shadowhunters – What Lies Beneath Spoiler Free Preview!

I have high praise for this episode, specifically for director Amanda Row, David Castro and Nicola Correia-Damude.

Amanda Row

There are a couple of scenes that had me absolutely screaming with joy but the main one… Well, I shall just say “watch for the mirrors” and leave it at that. Also there’s a close up on Jace near the start that had me on the floor. It’s a joy having Amanda back in the Director’s chair for this episode. FYI the last one she directed was 2.18, Awake, Arise or Be Forever Fallen.

David Castro

Equal praise needs to be showered on David Castro (Raphael) for this episode. We see a different side of Raphael, and it’s fascinating to watch! I wanted to hug Raphael at least three times this episode.

Nicola Correia-Damude

Nicola, aka Maryse Lightwood, is absolutely radiant in this episode. Just glorious to behold. She really handles her storyline beautifully, showing the fierce woman we have come to know has more layers we have yet to discover.

Surprises and Teases

There are some shocks this episode, including one major plotline that is brand new to the show. I am really interested to see how it plays out, as it could mean saying goodbye to a much loved character.

Jace (Dominic Sherwood) really needs to sleep – but not change his hair because it’s bloody glorious in this one! The moment we see in one of the sneak peeks of him and Clary is really sweet. She is very worried about him, and you can tell it is weighing on her.

A tease – Magnus “Too Much” Bane 😉

The final few moments are going to blow everyone away.

Things are changing for Simon (Alberto Rosende), and not just due to the Mark. I’m excited for the NEXT episode after the way things go for him in this one.

It was really nice to see some more of Clary (Katherine McNamara) and Izzy (Emeraude Toubia) together, and the two of them with Jace at the club kinda gave me all sorts of The Mortal Cup feels. All that was missing was Alec.

After the massive awkwardness last week with the double date, it’s great to see Maia (Alisha Wainwright), Simon and Clary interacting WITHOUT any awkwardness.

Domestic Malec

Y’all have been asking for it. And you’re getting it in spades. First there was the Sandalwood incident in 3.02, and now we have cooking and a dinner party in 3.03.

Character Development

I think the biggest positive of this episode is you really see how much almost every single character has developed. It’s most notable in characters like Maryse, Raphael, Maia, ones who haven’t had a lion’s share of screen-time, but I think that helps you notice the difference.

That’s it for my Shadowhunters – What Lies Beneath Spoiler Free Preview. I hope it’s given you some teases to hang on to over the long weekend. We will be tweeting the episode when it airs on Freeform Tuesday April 3rd at 8/7c. The episode will be available worldwide on Netflix on April 4th.
