RWBY at Dragon Con 2019

RWBY at Dragon Con 2019

RWBY Volume 7 Poster

When I knew I was going to be at Dragon Con I checked the list of attending guests to see who I wanted to try and meet and perhaps interview. Imagine my utter joy when I discovered that SIX of the voice actresses from my beloved RWBY were going to be at Dragon Con 2019! The whole of Team RWBY, plus the voices of Nora and Pyrrha. When the time came to request our interviews I sweet talked my colleagues into letting me request them and I was successful.

Friday afternoon rolled around and I headed down to the media interview room at the appointed time. Time passed, and indeed the beginning of our allotted interview period came and went without any sign of the actresses arriving. I was starting to get a little nervous but then Samantha Ireland who voices Nora Valkyrie and Jen Brown (Pyrrha Nikos) arrived and we were able to get started.

The other reporter there and I had just begun asking questions when Team RWBY arrived! Lindsay Jones, Kara Eberle, Arryn Zech and Barbara Dunkelman joined us and after a little period to get settled, we picked up where we left off.

So do you want to see?

Of course you do. Hit the play button below to watch the interview in full.

WARNING: Contains occasional strong language as these six ladies have an absolute blast with each other.

And yes, I had a fangirl moment when Arryn noticed my Coco and Velvet shirt!

I love how you can really feel the bonds that have built up between all 6 actresses over the time they have worked together. It was great to find out more about their likes, and to see them geek out over stuff just like we all do. Especially Jen and her love for Steven Universe and horror movies. That was such a wonderfully sweet moment when she spoke about the importance of Steven Universe to her and on a wider scale.

I was also really excited when Lindsay spoke about the new companion book that’s due out shortly. I came home and immediately pre-ordered my copy of The World of RWBY: The Official Companion. In the UK it’s available for pre-order at Forbidden Planet or you can find it on Amazon. It’s due out October 8th ahead of Volume 7!

If you want to check out Jen’s podcast all about horror movies from a feminist perspective then search Women in Caskets wherever you usually get your podcasts. It’s on my list to check out for sure!

Autographs and photos

I went to see the RWBY ladies on the Walk of Fame on Saturday and got them to autograph my poster. They all remembered me from the previous day, which was great. They had a huge line every time I went past their booths over the weekend, and everyone seemed to be having the best time, both the waiting fans and the ladies of RWBY. Seeing those interactions which were all so positive really brought it home to me how much Dragon Con is a fan focused event.

On Sunday it was photo op day. I had a picture with ALL of the ladies. I was third in line and had a great chat with the two guys in front of me while we waited. The guys before me both got hugs for their pictures but I wanted something a little more kick ass. Everyone was more than happy to join in.

My one regret is that I didn’t get to any of the panels for RWBY at Dragon Con 2019. Things were just a little hectic, with it being my first time there, and I missed them. Next time I will make sure to attend at least one!

Hey, I'm Clare, aka Ciara or C. My current fandoms are RWBY and The Last Kingdom along with a bunch of other stuff I tend to let build up and then binge! I'm a keen, albeit amateur, cosplayer and love attending cons in various cosplays. I'm also the resident comic book girl around these parts, especially small press comics, so if you've got an indie book you want reviewed, I'm your gal! When I'm not doing the fangirl thing I am a keen long-distance hiker, having completed Te Araroa in New Zealand and The Pacific Crest Trail on the West Coast of the US.
