Today was not a fun day in Rob world. I have waited with bated breath for Idol’s Eye to start filming and alas, it has been cancelled. Getting up this morning I was so excited since filming was supposed to start. Who wouldn’t want set pics of Rob with Robert De Niro and Rachel Weisz? It seems like we have waited forever for them. But then the first tweet comes in from one of the actors stating it’s been cancelled. Well, who knew at the time if he was talking about just his part or the whole movie. Then the next tweet that another role had been told they cancelled. So as we sit here and contemplate what actually happened, we bitch and moan. Why would a film company just up and cancel after the cast is in towns, sets were designed, shooting was set to begin…it all seems to come down to one thing, the money.
“The company cannot continue to put its investment at risk and has been forced to stop cash flowing the production. This is something all of us wanted to avoid, but due to the producers missing a number of financing criteria deadlines that were mutually established by all parties, we were left with no other options. Benaroya Pictures plans to retain the rights of the film and move forward with production on the picture after we generate a revised script and assemble a new filmmaking team.” (EW)
So, do I keep my hopes up that maybe in the future this project can happen or do I just move on to the next movie in Rob’s lineup? Well, I will always be waiting for his next project, but I’ll always have hope for this project to come back.
