Review The Bold Type: Sutton and Betsy

Betsy

Sutton’s Gotta Gun

Yeah this clip is right where the show kicks off. Sutton and Betsy are causing a wedge with Sutton and Jane. Who is Betsy you ask, well Betsy is Sutton’s shotgun. That’s right, she has a gun. Jane is having a major issue with it. Like Jane is almost being unreasonable about it.

Jane opens here mouth in a pitch meeting and says she is going to write about Sutton and Betsy. Even after going with Sutton to the shooting range and learning about the gun, she still have issues with the gun. After breaking down about why she is scared and has an issue with the gun, she still wants it out of their apartment.

I usually side with Jane, but this time I was on Sutton’s side. She has a hunting shotgun that she has had since she was in high school. It is in a locked case and no bullets. There was no reason for Jane to be scared.

After meeting with Pinstripe and Jacqueline about her feeling and her article, I do believe Jane will be able to come to grips with her feelings about this gun.

Sutton and The Handbag

So the “friendship” with Brooke has finally fizzled out. Of course Sutton needs something from her and now she is avoiding Sutton at all costs. She needs a handbag she let her use and she never returned it. Now Oliver wants it for a photo shoot.

After several texts and calls Sutton had to turn to stalking her  social media in order to find her. Yup she finds and it is a little on the awkward side. Only to have Brooke tell you she no longer has the handbag and gave it back to Tyler, the designer of the said handbag.  Guess what? You guessed it, Tyler is out-of-town.

Sutton has no choice but to tell Oliver the truth. Oliver being Oliver, he surprised her when he makes one call and get the handbag sent back. But he teaches Sutton a little lesson. He teaches her that they are a team, they back each other up, they are there for each other. Let me just say I would love to work for Oliver. He seems to be a cool AF as Boss.

Sutton also seems to end up crying in all the episodes lately. I honestly thought this one would be different. After a big blow out with Jane over Betsy, she goes back to the shooting range to clear her head. Of course Jane not being able to let it go, she follows her there.

Jane does what all best friends do when you don’t even know that you need it. They break you down and make you see what you have been missing. That is what Jane does for Sutton. Making her see herself more clearly.

Which leads Sutton into deciding what to do with Betsy.

Kat and Her Open Relationship

Oh lord I didn’t see this one coming. But Adena tells Kat that they can have an open relationship so Kat can explore and see what else is out there.

Kat isn’t sure what to think at first but she decides to give it a try. Swiping left a lot, she does meet one girl and gives her a try. Lets just say this was more than she expected in the bedroom area. Kat went with it.

When she got home she wanted to tell Adena all about it but Adena wasn’t sure she wanted to hear it. Kat explained that she needed and wanted to talk to her friend who would understand.

As always the show is teaching things and hitting the issues that we all may think about but don’t talk about. It is one of the reasons I love this show. But please writers of The Bold Type, PLEASE write about a happy Sutton again PLEASE. Her tears are killing me.

Feel free to let me know what you think about this episode below. Until next week, see you on Twitter for live tweeting the next episode.
