Review: DC’s Legends of Tomorrow 612: Bored on Board Onboard

Legends 612: Bored on Board Onboard: The Waverider has no jump drive, thanks to John Constantine, so they must take the long way home. Gary suggests a board game. The crew groans, but eventually give in. What could possibly go wrong when John uses his new powers to make it more immersive?

Spoilers

Bored

Gideon(voiced by Amy Louise Pemberton) informs Sara(Caity Lotz) and Ava(Jes Macallan) that the trip back to Earth will take a while. as the jump drive no longer works. They will need to fill three weeks with activities. Using energy increases the time, so Sara unplugs Nate(Nick Zano) and Behrad’s(Shayan Sobhian) video game, and makes Astra(Olivia Swann) actually cook her food.

Boredom eventually takes over, even after John(Matt Ryan) tries to get naked during group yoga, and changes the room with his magic. Behrad doesn’t like the changes in John.

Gary(Adam Tsekhman) suggests a board game that he has. Sort of like Clue, but without the copyrights. At first, the crew balks, but then, they get on board. Then John uses his chaotic new magic to literally put them into the game. Each player is given a role; for example: John is a consumptive doctor, Sara a French widow. The problem is that the longer they are in the game, the more they become their game pieces.

Ava dies first, followed by Nate. Except they are really dead, at least in the game. The crew has to win the game to escape, and survive.

Onboard

Mick(Dominic Purcell) has grown a full head of hair. Gary points out that this is a good sign, as it means the babies Mick has in his head are healthy. A ship approaches, and it doesn’t look good. Fearing the worst as it docks, the two arm themselves. Turns out it is Kayla(Aliyah O’Brien). She survived Bishop’s planet, and wants her ship. Mick informs her it is three weeks away, and Kayla offers to fix The Waverider. Does not seem suspicious at all.

While repairing the ship, Kayla attaches a small device to the jump drive as Gary pulls Mick away to tell him that he shouldn’t mention the pregnancy to Kayla, as his species have a strong matriarchal society. Kayla may kill Mick if she doesn’t like how his pregnancy is going.

Kayla admits that Bishop rescued her, and she is helping him return. Mick has to admit his pregnancy to save his life.

Ending the Game

John’s magic doesn’t help them escape, so Spooner(Lisseth Chavez) decides to get them out on her own-with Astra’s help. They wind up dead, and Zari(Tala Ashe) finds Behrad with bloody hands. He tells Zari that John isn’t good for her and has changed. Zari admits she loves John. The siblings work together and find John cornered by a hooded figure. It is John’s evil half, and Zari stabs him with a fireplace poker, ending the game.

She later goes to a sleeping John to tell him she loves him, and sees the poker stab on his back as well.

Sara opens a door on the ship, and looks shocked. What did she see?
