DC’s Legends of Tomorrow 604: Bay of Squids sends the crew to 1962 during the Cuban Missile Crisis.

Spoilers!

Zari, Not Zari

Nate(Nick Zano) encounters Zari(Tala Ashe) on the way to the bathroom, and in her un-glammed state, looks very much like his Zari. She is a little dismissive of his hurt.

Big Oops

Rory(Dominic Purcell) pilots the ship to 1962 Cuba, but forgets the cloaking device, so the Cubans see the ship on radar, thinking it is American. This sets off an even more tense escalation between superpowers that hadn’t existed during the original, very tense time.

Also, some of the team accidentally gives the nuclear missile to Cuba.

To Camelot

Nate and Zari head to the White House, to monitor the situation there. Nate as a fellow Harvard grad, Zari as his secretary.

Finding the Alien

The alien is in Cuba, and is set to have an autopsy(can you call it that if the alien is still, y’know, alive?). Afraid that killing the alien will ruin their best chance to find Sara(Caity Lotz), Ava(Jes Macallan) disguises herself as a Russian surgeon and takes over the autopsy, while Behrad(Shayan Sobhian) gasses everyone with laughing gas.

Behrad wanders out to a laundry bin and puts on a beret, leading to him being mistaken for Che Guevara.

As the threat of nuclear war moves to DefCon 3, Nate and Zari have to keep things calm. President Kennedy(Aaron Craven) is calm enough, but his war generals are frothing at the mouth for war. This leads to a literal football scrimmage to capture the Nuclear Football. Kennedy’s notoriously bad back comes into play, and it is up to Nate to save the day.

Still believing that Behrad is a Guevara, Fidel Castro(Tim Perez) hangs with him. Behrad gives him pot gummies, and they are soon jamming to “Peace Train”. Behrad has some nice pipes! But all good things, etc., and Behrad airily makes his escape.

The Alien Awakens

The alien is angry, and is trying to use the nuclear missile to get off earth. Ava and Spooner(Lisseth Chavez) explain that it isn’t a ship, but they have one. It wants its own ship; Ava promises the alien a ship if she helps find Sara. Rory volunteers to go alone with the alien-Kayla(Aliyah O’Brien)-Gary’s fiancé.

Where to Go?

The Legends have no ship, so they decide to go to Constantine’s house.

Zari’s outfit is eerily(probably purposefully) reminiscent of the dress Jackie Kennedy wore when Kennedy was assassinated.

Missed Constantine(Matt Ryan) this episode, but was pleasantly surprised how Behrad really stepped up.

Rory was a delight, and Nate was in his element.

It was nice to see Ava competent again, instead of just pining for Sara.
