Release Day: Scorned by S.L. Scott (@slscottauthor) – REVIEW

We shared a love that regulated every heartbeat and every breath we took. It was all encompassing. I thought our love could withstand time and anything thrown our way.
I was wrong. So wrong.

I used to be happy. I used to be Juliette Weston when Dylan Somers filled my life with promises of love and a happy ever after. But when he took my heart and broke it into a million pieces, I became someone else entirely. In one afternoon, I lost my soul mate. I lost everything I knew myself to be.
Three years later, the man who destroyed me is back.
To assuage his guilt? To finish the job? It doesn’t matter… I won’t let him this time. I’m stronger. I’ve moved on. He won’t affect me.
This is a story of love and betrayal. Pain and loss. Happiness and fate. It’s about finding your true destiny.
This is our story.

And it’s not for the faint of heart.
**I received an e-book ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review.**
When I heard S.L. Scott had a new serial coming out, I got a little excited. No, that’s not true – I got way excited. Scott is one of my favorite indie authors, and I’ve always enjoyed her work. Scorned, the first book in the From the Inside Out serial, was no different. I enjoyed every minute of it.
The title of this piece was enough alone to make me want to read it. After all … “Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned.” I think it’s safe to say that most women have been there at one point in time – rejected, angry, looking for a way to move on, maybe even ready to dish up a nice, cold serving of revenge. That’s where Jules – known pre-breakup as Juliette  – is at when the book opens. She was hurt three years earlier, and though she’s tried to move forward, what she’s actually done is put a nickel sized bandage on a gaping wound. She goes through the motions every day, finds comfort in her best friend, and tries not to think about Dylan, the man who broke her heart.
This mode of operation works fine, until Dylan wanders out of her memories and back in to her life. The man who ceased to exist for so long is suddenly everywhere, and Jules has a hard time, to say the least, reconciling her feelings and figuring out exactly what she wants to do.
I enjoyed the cast of characters Scott created with this story. Brandon seems very much like the boy next door, though I question whether his intentions are honorable or not. Austin has it all – good looks, money, and charm – but he also has class and humbleness, which make me hope he’ll play a big role in the rest of the serial. Dylan is introduced, and his perspective did make me feel like I might be able to understand and/or sympathize with him eventually, but he doesn’t play a very active role in this installment.
There’s a healthy dose of angst, though not as much as I initially expected given the title of the work. Jules seemed a wee bit too willing to let Dylan back in, but we’re still early on in the story, so I’m hoping she puts him through the ringer a few times as things progress. I can’t wait until the next installment in this serial comes out. Scorned left me wanting more of everything – the characters, the story, and all that’s in between.
If you like serials and are looking for one that’s filled with passion, heartbreak, and betrayal, then Scorned is just the book for you! Give it a read, then come back and tell me – and the other readers here at FANdemonium Network – what you thought!

About author(s)

Nikki

I'm a midwest girl in my early 30s with a love of costume jewelry, lattes, and farmers markets. The written word is it for me. I love to craft my own stories, as well as devour those that others have written. Outside of writing and reading, I love film, music, baseball, trying new restaurants, traveling, craft beer, and spending time with my friends and family.
