Music Monday – 90’s R&B and Hip Hop Part 1 (The Men)

The 90’s was the era I pretty much grow up in. Jr. High, High School, 1st love, many, many heart breaks, and so much more. It was also a great era for music. So many different types of music made an impact in the 90’s from Rock to Hip Hop. I had to narrow it down. So I picked R&B and Hip Hop Men. To the youngins nowadays, it’s old school, but to me it was just my music… My Jams.

Come take a trip with me back in time to the 90’s. I promise it’s gonna be a good time.

1990 – Troop  “All I Do Is Think of You”

I had a mix tape with this one it. It was for one of my many crushes, but I never gave it to him.

1990 – Guy  “Let’s Chill”

Whatever happened to Aaron Hall? That man could sing.

1991 – Hi Five  “Kissing Game”

This song always makes me think of my 1st love.

1991- DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince  “Summertime”

This one makes me think of my 1st love too and all the time we spent in the pool that summer.

1992 – Jodeci  “Stay”

I always wanted that dude to talk to me in that deep voice like he does in the beginning… Damn, that is still hot.

1992 – Shai  “If I Ever Fall In Love”

One of my favorite a cappella songs ever.

1993 – Silk  “Freak Me”

In high school, “freaking” was a dance. I now know that is NOT what they are singing about… To be so innocent again…

1993 – Naughty By Nature  “Hip Hop Hooray”

Let’s be honest, who doesn’t point at one of their friends when the song says “Hey Ho Hey Ho”?

1994 – Tevin Campbell  “Can We Talk”

I used to think he was just the cutest thing.

1994 – R.Kelly  “Bump and Grind”

Of course you don’t see nothing wrong… You’s a man. Lol.

1995 – Montell Jordan  “This Is How We Do it”

The year I graduated, this song was perfect for all the high school dances and parties…  Side note: he looks just like my brother… Ewww. Lol.

1995 – Method Man & Mary J Blige  “All I Need”

There is something about Method Man that I just love… Hmmm.

1996 – Ginuwine  “Pony”

Before Channing did that EffHot striptease to this song… there was Ginuwine. And who didn’t wanna ride his pony.

1996 – Bone Thugs-n-Harmony  “The Crossroads”

I still remember being at SummerJam ’96, seeing them perform this song live… Amazing.

1997 – The Notorious B.I.G.  “Hypnotize”

RIP Biggie

1997 – Puff Daddy & Faith Evans feat. 112  “I’ll Be Missing You”

I remember hearing this song and just being so sad for the loss of two great rappers, even though this song is only for one of them.

1998 – Next  “Too Close”

We’ve all been there many, many times in the club, dancing, then you gettin’ poked… This song will never get old.

1998 – Dru Hill  “How Deep Is Your Love”

All I think of when I hear this song is the movie Rush Hour and Jackie Chan dancing.

1999 – Brian McKnight  “Back at One”

I remember the 1st time I heard this song. Let’s just say a lot of tears were shed and my heart was breaking.

1999 – Donell Jones  “U Know What’s Up”

Still makes me wanna dance.

I know I may have forgotten some….but I could go on and on with music from the 90’s. This week’s TBT will have one of my favorite male singers from the 90’s that I couldn’t fit into today’s post. So until then, drop me a comment below and tell me some of your faves. And up next week, R&B and Hip Hop: The Women of the 90’s.
