MacGyver 4X02: Red Cell + Quantum + Cold + Committed

A general needs help getting a chip from a heavily secured military lab to test it for flaws. After framing the team for its theft, MacGyver and his team find out the real reason he needs it, and must rush to save not only their reputation, but the world.

After a rousing game of skeeball, Riley(Tristan Mays) retains her winning streak. It has been months since they spent time together, and she and MacGyver(Lucas Till) reconnect. He apologizes for not staying in touch after Phoenix disbanded. Riley understands, citing how they have all had bad breakups to deal with alongside Phoenix’s disbanding.
Our First Job is With The General(Not the Insurance One)
Sinister sunflowers sounds like a goth band, but it is not. It is these guys.

The team is contracted by Russ’s 4 star general pal Acosta(Xander Berkeley) to break into a lab, and, boy is Russ(Henry Ian Cusick) happy! But first they have to get through some very high tech security devices. They use low tech lead blankets in the trunk of a car. It’s sort of like sneaking extra people into the drive in, but if Superman was the ticket seller.
Saying “lead in the trunk” would usually be mixing auto themed metaphors.

They also use Bozer’s(Justin Hires) superior pickup techniques to get a photo of an employee’s eye so Riley can use it to get into the main lab.

There are flowers that follow you, robot roaches, invisibility cloaks, and also deadly stuff.

To get to a much wanted super fast Quantum chip, Mac must keep the temperature low. He succeeds, but an alarm is tripped, and the team makes a hasty retreat, thanks to Desi’s(Levy Tran) quick thinking.
Double Crossed By the General and a Bear is Tossed
Celebrating after giving the chip to Acosta and getting their clearances back, they find out Acosta double crossed them!
Stealing a minivan, the team is pursued by local police and the FBI. The minivan’s lowjacking device is giving away their position.
Removing the lowjacking device and putting it in a teddy bear, Russ tosses it into another car.
The Truth Comes Out About the General
Come to find out, Acosta’s family has been kidnapped, and the kidnappers want him to use the chip at NORAD. For what is anyone’s guess. Unless you’re Russ, who believes in most conspiracy theories.
Hacking the general’s phone, they find a proof of life photo. Enhancing a reflection they get more bad news: the kidnappers aren’t worrying about wearing masks.
The team tracks the kidnapper and the general’s family down-Desi takes out the kidnapper. But rather than submit, he jumps out a window to his death.
Stopping The Red Cell
If the general puts that chip in, the unknown kidnappers can control NORAD and more. They can use the chip to take out humanity.
NORAD’s alarms are going off, and Mac and Russ can’t get in. There’s no way to get in to let the General know his family is safe, right? But it is MacGyver, y’all.
Matty(Meredith Eaton) keeps in contact, being her awesome AF self.
Can Mac and Russ Stop the General?

With Phoenix NORAD blueprints acquired(by Matty, of course), Mac John McClanes in and alerts the General and stops him in time, but gets surprised when a Major Ann Frost(Emmanuelle Vaugier) shoots Acosta and tries to use the chip. She is a member of the mysterious Red Cell, and Mac stops her.
The general survives, but must face the consequences. Thankfully, MacGyver, Matty, Desi, Riley, Russ, and Bozer are cleared.
Squad Goals. Man, I love using that phrase this week.

There’s a White Lady in the Living Room

Matty is waiting for Riley at her place. This would normally be a welcome surprise, but Riley has a secret-a boyfriend named Aubrey(Leonardo Nam). Of course, there are no secrets for Matty, and she has already vetted him. Riley is not in the trouble she thought she’d be in. Matty understands what it’s like to want to be more than just the job.

Watching a monitor, Mac and Russ see the mysterious group’s sinister logo, but it gives them no clues as to who they are or what they want.
