Preacher season 2

 Preacher Season 2X06, Sokosha

  • The Saint of Killers is back, and Jesse pays the price.
  • MAJOR SPOILERS AND CONSTANTINE EASTER EGGS AHEAD!

Preacher opens with a clean house, but no one we know. A well dressed man is telling a couple that they will be compensated well for the procedure he is about to perform, and the higher the percentage, the more money they will receive.

There will be no known side effects, they are told. There may be a little fatigue, but that is all.

The man injects a needle, and extracts…something. He later refines this matter and puts it in a suffering woman’s mouth, and she comes to her senses. He is paid handsomely, leaving by the armored car he arrived in.

A Child Shall Lead Him

Tulip(Ruth Negga) is making breakfast for Jesse(Dominic Cooper) and Cassidy(Joseph Gilgun). Allie brings The Saint of Killers to where she believes Jesse and company are staying. She is off by a door or two, the three make their escape, and Jesse retrieves one of The Saint’s bullets.

Jesse is tired of running, and wants to find out The Saint’s weakness. They go to the library, researching. There are books, comics, books on tape(For Tulip). We see the history of the Saint again, in a brilliant montage. Jesse knows what The Saint needs. But how to reach him?

Who is Dennis, anyway?

Cassidy frantically tries to reach Dennis. He had forgotten him, and is desperately trying to call him. He needs to warn Dennis not to go home. Of course, there is the language barrier. And the fact that the Saint has his phone. Jesse tells the Saint he wants to talk.

Why is Dennis so important?

He is Cassidy’s son. His cantankerous son.

Let’s Make A Deal

Jesse arrives, and tells the Saint that God is missing. He offers the Saint the one thing he needs to see his family in heaven again. A soul. The Saint gives him one hour to get a soul, and Jesse is certain he can get one.

But there’s a catch. The Saint is keeping Dennis, Cassidy, and Tulip as hostages. If Jesse fails, they die. Jesse’s ability to buy a soul surprises Tulip, who had no idea that such things were possible.

Papa Bebe’s

Jesse heads to a voodoo shop, trying to shake down the owner to get a soul. The owner asks who Jesse is and he tells him-Jesse L’angell. The shop owner becomes a bit more open. He explains that the Japanese have taken over the soul industry, and they arrive just as they are spoken of.

Jesse tries to break into the armored vehicle, but it is soundproof. Even one of Tulip’s bombs won’t dent it. But it can attract the police, which Jesse can use The Word on.

In the Truck

Jesse is told that the soul must match the receiver. Like an organ, if it is not a match, the soul will not take. None of the souls in the truck match The Saint, and Jesse must give some of his soul.

Now The Word Works

The hour is up, and The Saint of Killers goes after Tulip with his sword. At the cost of his fingers, Cassidy stops the sword from striking, and Jesse rushes in. The Saint gets enough soul-enough soul to get into heaven, and for The Word to work. Consequently, Jesse can’t send a piece of himself back to hell. He takes The Saint for a ride in the armored car, and handles him as only a L’angell can.

Thoughts

CONSTANTINE EASTER EGG, and a nod to the show with the name of the Voodoo shop.

So many spoilers this week!

We see Jesse admit his lineage.

Love the twist and the take on The Saint of Killers on the show, versus the Saint in the Preacher comics.

How did the trio know that Fiore had crossed them? According to Production Designer Dave Blass’s Twitter, there was a scene cut from an episode where there is a phone call. Follow @DaveBlass on Twitter and on his Instagram @Blackhawkdesign for breathtaking photos and Preacher details you won’t see on AMC, and Constantine goodies as well(Dave was/is the Production designer for both).

Cassidy comes to the rescue again. This will come into play in the future, I believe.

Again, do not trust Tulip’s cooking.

I loved how Jesse handled The Saint. Did anyone else get an Interview With the Vampire vibe from it? And we all know how that turned out…

Livetweet the show with us @FANdemoniumNet .

Preacher airs Mondays at 9pm on AMC
