“Planes 2: Fire & Rescue” film review.

Ok so we are still in the summer vacation and if you are stuck for something to so with the kids, I highly recommend that you see Planes 2: Fire and rescue, not only is it a good film for children it has all the humour you have come to love from Disneytoon Studios!

We all remember the story of Dusty Crophopper from the first film how he dreamt of being a racing plane and not the crop duster that he was, he managed to overcome his fear of heights and out most of his competition to race around the world and now we re-join him in Planes 2 where he is a big star, in between races he is at home and getting ready for the local corn festival and when having a routine flight gets into trouble, Dottie his trusty mechanic tell him it’s a problem with his gear box and she can’t replace or fix it as they stopped making them.  Dusty hits a bit of a downer and whilst flying at night and in the dark causes a fire on the local airport, after an investigation the authorities deem that Mayday their fire truck is too out of shape and they need a second, after trying to cheer Mayday up Dusty decides he will be his second so heads out to piston Peak to train with the real deal.

We meet up with aerial firefighters Blade Ranger, Lil’ Dipper, Maru, Cabbie and also the fire jumping team Drip, Avalance, Pinecone, Blackout and Patch, his warm welcome is in the form of Lil’ dipper as she has a crush on him and says she is his biggest fan, we see him in training and trying to deal with his gear issue and then in action battling his own troubles as well as the fire in this film.

The humour as always can be for the more mature watchers, the pickup trucks in reference to pick up lines is something that goes right over the younger audience heads, but its lines and things like that which I love.  You will also see them watching a show called CHoP’s which is their version of the show CHiP’s changing highway patrol for helicopters and then a small reference to Howard the duck.

Voices in this film are provided by the likes of Dane Cook, Ed Harris, Julie Bowen, Curtis Armstrong, Cedric the Entertainer and Terri Hatcher.  With the added knowing of having John Ratzengerger who makes a vocal appearance in as far as I know all Disney Toon’s films in some form.

So if you are in the mood for a good movie or need something to calm the youngsters I believe this is the film you are searching for!   Thank you and enjoy!

Dane Cook
