The Originals Season 2 round-up

The real countdown has begun, it’s just 1 more week until The Mikaelson family is back on our screens for more Original mayhem and there’s all sorts hitting the web so I thought I’d round up some of the biggest stories of the last week or so in a handy In Case You Missed It post.

First up, we got a gorgeous new poster for Season 2

And a day or so later this incredibly insightful symbolic interpretation hit the net. It’s a long read, but well worth it if you like to analyse these kinds of things (which I do) for any insight into the coming season.

Spoiler.tv dropped some info regarding the 9th episode and 2 new characters who will be turning up.

According to sources casting is currently underway for 2 new roles set to appear in the 9th episode.

Mary-Alice
A witch with ties to Marcel. In exchange for the use of her curses she wants to live under the protection of Klaus and Elijah.

Megan
A lady with a mission, searching for her family in New Orleans. Upon discovering her sister, someone will be shaken to their core.

Speculation is currently running wild as to whose sister Megan could be and the front-runner seems to be Hayley. Other suggestions include Cami and Davina but I feel sure we’d have heard about it by now if either of them had a sister in the wings. We know next to nothing about Hayley’s family, either her werewolf kin or the family that adopted her and then cast her out after she triggered her werewolf curse. With Hayley’s current downward spiral into Hybrid revenge mode having a sibling show up could cause all manner of fireworks.

Two brilliant sneak peek videos have been released.

The first shows a frustrated Klaus and a rather snarky Elijah discussing what has happened since we last saw them.

I think the biggest thing to take from this clip is that it so heavily involves Klaus and his painting. It’s been stated before in The Vampire Diaries and in season one of The Originals that Klaus views his paintings as an expression of control. He chooses everything and it’s the ultimate way of demonstrating his power. The torn, blank canvases give more insight into Klaus than anything else possibly could right now.

The second clip shows that all is not well in the world of Haylijah as they argue over the proper way to carry on with their grief.

I have to disagree with Hayley’s statement that she can’t be killed because she’s a Hybrid. That might be true of Klaus since he is also an Original Vampire, the only thing that can do him in is the White Oak Stake. Normal hybrids on the other hand have proven decidedly less durable since, well, Hayley is the only one in existence now other than Klaus (Hope notwithstanding, none of us know what she is yet) since he killed all of the other Hybrids in a fit of rage (and possibly the most incredible scene Joseph Morgan has yet committed to film in either TVD or The Originals.)

Then came the news that a “crossover” has been filmed and that the Vampire Diaries star we would be seeing in New Orleans will be Nina Dobrev. Not as Elena though, but as Tatia, the first doppelganger who Klaus was in love with and he and Elijah fought over. In an interview with E!Online, showrunner Julie Plec teases us with a love triangle storyline, and says that Nina will be appearing as Tatia in a flashback in episode 5 which is due to air on November 3rd.

Julie Plec gave us this little snippet:

A holiday episode? Well there are some behind the scenes photos popping up that seem to indicate a family reunion might be on the cards for that holiday episode. Whether Rebekah and Hope return to New Orleans or perhaps Elijah ventures out of the city for a visit remains to be seen, but it certainly would be a sweet moment in an otherwise fairly dramatic and potentially death-filled season.

bex hope elijah hope

The Originals returns to screens in one week, October 6th at 8/7c on The CW, in North America and in the UK on Tuesday 14th at 10pm on SyFy UK.
