The Originals – Red Door recap

I’m so sorry this recap is so late. I’ve been sick/away but I’m back now and in full on catch up mode so here goes!

Previously – lots of Mikaelson family reunions and revelations, and Elijah chained up in a tomb. Oh dear me.

A terrified Hayley runs down a corridor towards a big red door chased by a shirtless, blood covered Elijah moving with Terminator levels of determination here.

Red Door 7

He catches her by the door but when he turns her back around it’s not Hayley – it’s Elena…no…wait…it’s Tatia! Elijah bites her and then wakes up, still chained up in Mommy Dearest’s cemetery play room. Esther asks who he was dreaming about, Hayley or was it someone else? She again offers him a second chance at life in the body of a witch but he turns her down. She claims to know all his secrets and beings to talk of Tatia. Elijah believes that Esther killed Tatia but she says that isn’t what really happened.

red door 4

Flashback to Samhain in their village, Elijah looks on as Tatia dances with Klaus

The Red Door 3

He sees Klaus kiss her and walks away, Tatia follows. They talk in circles about fate, destiny and the fact they clearly like each other before they kiss (so much for that “none loved her more than Niklaus” line of Elijah’s from TVD. Or is it? Is this real or is this Esther screwing with Elijah?).

The Red Door 1

Back out at Davina’s cabin Cami and Koleb tend to Davina while Klaus is stuck outside. Koleb winds Klaus up until Cami goes to get the car so they can take Davina to hospital at which point Klaus and Kol have a little family reunion. They realise Cami is missing, blood smears all over Klaus’s truck plus and empty trunk – yeah, you totally should have staked Mikael when you had the chance Klaus!

Klaus calls Elijah (a tad pointless right now since I don’t think Elijah can get to his messages at the moment) before he goes back to the cabin to try and force Kol to wke Davina up so she can use her magic to recall Mikael. Kol refuses and suggests Klaus might want to get moving since Dear Old Dad has Cami and is probably a bit peckish by now.. Klaus leaves and Kol talks to an unconscious Davina about needing to get out of Dodge since his family troubles are starting to pile up. His phone rings and he ignores it, but one magical nosebleed later it rings again and he picks up, it’s Finn checking on progress. Kol tells him about Davina’s unlinking spell and Finn instructs him to kill the spell or kill the girl. Think I know which one Kol is going to pick – don’t you?

Mikael is dragging Cami through the bayou, he thinks that threatening her life will distract Klaus enough so he can kill him. Cami has a go at Mikael, says some things some of the fans have been saying for years (Mikael hates Klaus for the very fact that he isn’t actually HIS son), Mikael is getting angry but then he hears music, which means people he can feed on. They stumble on to Hillbilly Halloween (as he calls it).

Kol finds the item that Davina intends to use to bind her spell, Kandahar Root, and destroys it to render the spell useless just as Davina wakes up. He plays dumb, pretending not to know who Klaus and Mikael are, he says they left and that Mikael has the stake. She tries to recall Dear Old Dad but of course Kol deactivated her bracelet so nothing happens. She decides the only thing she can do now is finish her spell in case Mikael gets to Klaus and stakes him.

Back in the city Hayley arrives at Marcel’s place and tells him that the werewolf children they freed are now safe up north. They celebrate a bit until they realise that something is up, Elijah is missing and so is Ollie. Hayley sets out to find them and Marcel goes too.

Out in the cemetery Esther taunts Elijah with his thirst and he remembers finding Klaus, bloodied and alone, having killed 6 villagers.

red door 3

Elijah says he behaved like one of the wolves and that he is the only one of their siblings who has this affliction. Klaus realises his true parentage and Elijah says that it changes nothing, that he will always stick by him (awwww).

Red Door 1

Tatia stumbles on the blood soaked murder scene, sees Klaus and runs. Elijah believes he compelled Tatia to forget but according to Esther he had only been a vampire for a few days and didn’t yet know how to compel. What really happened was that he chased her down and killed her.

red door 2

Elijah refuses to listen, believing as he always has that Esther killed Tatia and used her blood to bind Klaus’s wolf side.

Out in the bayou Klaus stumbles on to the hillbillies. Mikael has compelled them to attack him but they are still only human.

Davina is ready to do her spell and Kol offers to help.

In a barn somewhere nearby Cami finally comes to the realisation that all her lectures to Klaus about Mikael were pointless as he really is a psychotic, hate filled homicidal madman bent on killing. Mikael reveals that when Klaus was born he was overjoyed and thought this child would be worthy but he was weak (thanks to Esther trying to hide her infidelity), that when he found out Klaus wasn’t really his son he was relieved but it was all doomed by Klaus’s obsession with the werewolves. Mikael blames Klaus for Henrik’s death (an accident) and Esther’s murder (okay, yeah, that one totally was Klaus). Marcel pegs Cami as a shrink and she says he could use some therapy, he replies that he actually needs food and bites her (YES!!!)

Klaus feeds off the last of the hillbillies before he gets a call from Hayley saying that Elijah is missing and they need help finding him. Klaus tells her he is a bit busy trying to save himself from getting killed by Mikael and rescue Cami, a tidbit that Marcel overhears and doesn’t look at all happy about. No strings my foot Gerard!

At the cabin the spell isn’t working, Davina grabs Kol’s hands to channel his power but gets a lot more than she bargained for when the connection reveals his true identity and everything he’s done in the last 12 hours, including freeing Mikael and destroying the Kandahar Root. They have a little magical punchup until he tells her that he has just as much reason as she does to want his family dead, and he’s willing to help her. She asks how he deactivated her bracelet and he tells her that he knows a thing or two about creating and destroying dark objects. How exactly does Kol know so much about magic? I get he’s in the body of a witch, but that witch is in his early twenties and surely hasn’t had that much experience…so where is all of this coming from?

Back at the Mother-Son bonding session Esther says that Elijah brought her Tatia’s body, that she told him she could make it all go away, that what went behind the door of the slaughter house would stay there and wouldn’t torment him. She said if he cleaned himself up no-one would ever know what he really was. The Red Door has become the place in his mind where he hides his worst deeds, his impeccable appearance a mask to hide the monster inside. Again Esther offers him a new life in the body of a witch so he could live, love Hayley, give her another child and again he refuses.

Davina and Kol talk about deactivating the White Oak Stake of it’s power, Kol says it’s impossible as it is far too powerful for that. They best they can hope for is to stop it working temporarily. Let’s hope that’s enough.

Klaus finds blood outside the barn and goes to face Mikael, finds a bitten Cami which annoys him a tiny bit. They begin to fight just as Davina and Kol arrive and start the spell to de-power the stake. Klaus seems to have the upper hand and looks like he’s about to stake Mikael until the Destroyer lobs Tunde’s blade at Cami’s face. Klaus catches it allowing Mikael to recover and he stakes Klaus. Klaus dessicates but doesn’t burn and that pisses Mikael off.

Red Door 8

(and still looks gorgeous!)

He finds Kol and Davina messing with his plan, knocks Kol out and bites Davina, but the time he was away was just enough to Cami to pull the stake out of Klaus (finally she does something useful). Mikael is about to kill her for saving Klaus when Marcel turns up and kicks his ass, Mikael goes to stake Marcel but then Hayley shows up too. Mikael runs, but not before claiming that having backup makes Klaus weak. Oh Mikael, you’ll never learn will you? The fact Klaus has these people who are willing to fight to protect him makes him stronger than ever.

Outside Davina gets a full on dad-style lecture about her actions from Marcel who then goes to try and smooth things over with Klaus. Kol suggests they bail since his brother isn’t big on forgiveness after being betrayed but Davina isn’t afraid of Klaus, why should she be when she holds the stake?

Cami admits that she was wrong to convince Klaus not to kill Mikael when he had the chance. Klaus thanks Marcel and Hayley for helping out and Marcel says that he was just being selfish since if Klaus dies he dies. Hayley chips in that if Klaus dies a lot of people die and it’s just occurred to me that Hayley and Hope presumably would be amongst that number since their vampire natures come from Klaus. She also mention that Elijah is still missing.

Esther is still tormenting Elijah until Hayley bursts in and bites her and then frees Elijah from his chains. He is weak and needs to feed and she offers herself. He refuses, afraid that his desire for her and his hunger will overwhelm him and he might hurt her. She says she doesn’t care, she kisses him and then he feeds from her (dear god that’s hot).

Red door 9

Turns out it’s all a dream, Esther is letting Elijah rest from her torment to let him find his own way to accepting her offer.  Will he?
