The I-Land

Welcome back Fandemaniacs for another Netflix Series Review. This time I’ll be talking about a new mini-series called The I-Land. The trailer kinda caught my attention, but to be honest, the show was more than dissapointing. But more of my opinion later – let’s give you a short overview about this new mini-series from Netflix.

Synopsis & Cast

ATTENTION – if you don’t wanna know too much about the show, scip reading the Synopsis!

Ten people wake up on the beach of what appears to be a deserted tropical island. None of them have any memory of who they are or how they got there, and each takes on the name that is printed on their clothes tags. The group make initial attempts to band together, but differing priorities and strong personalities cause some of them to clash. In particular, Chase, who wants to investigate the island, doesn’t get along with KC, who is suspicious of Chase’s ability to find resources, and Brody, who attempts to rape Chase.

When Brody is murdered, the group assume Chase is responsible and knock her unconscious. Chase wakes up in a prison facility, where she learns that she and the other nine people are violent crime prisoners, and are part of a “rehabilitation simulation”. Their minds have been put in the computer simulation of the island to test if they’ll resume old behavioral patterns. Anyone who dies in the simulation dies in real life. Chase is returned to the island simulation, where the avatars of two prison marshals arrive to deliberately cause the group to fight and split up. Additionally, the prisoners’ memories start to return, which causes further friction and confusion.

The cast wasn’t bad at all, and for all the Alex Pettyfer fans right here – you get a lot of half naked Alex in the show 😉 but here’s the main cast from the mini-series in case you wanna check them out.

  • Natalie Martinez as Gabriela Chase
  • Kate Bosworth as KC
  • Ronald Peet as Cooper
  • Kyle Schmid as Moses
  • Sibylla Deen as Blair
  • Gilles Geary as Mason
  • Anthony Lee Medina as Donovan
  • Kota Eberhardt as Taylor
  • Michelle Veintimilla as Hayden
  • Alex Pettyfer as Brody

Trailer & Poster

Review

Let’s just start with the trailer – that one got me hooked to watch this show – so the job of the whole team from The I-Land was good to get the interest of the people. The first few episodes were great and you were eager to find out more about what happend to all the people and why they are there. After about the 3rd episode you do get to know what happened to them. You literally find out that the whole the island thing is not real and that all of it is a simulation. THAT was the moment where I kinda thought – damn that’s like Lost but shortened together into 7 episodes! After finding out that this is all NOT real, you follow the main character Chase in finding out what’s actually happening. This goes through the last 4 episodes and then that was it. Some people die, some you never hear about anymore and Chase get’s her free life back.

If you really have NOTHING else to watch on a rainy day, then you can watch The I-Land, but if you have ANYTHING else to do on such a day, please do it. You won’t be missing anything by watching this mini-series.
