Mecho Tales Game Review – A wild and frenzied platforming gem!

Mecho Tales is a wild ride that never lets up and keeps you coming back for more!

MT is a platforming adventure game set in the Mecho Wars world. It sees you running along with a drone at your side. Shooting your way through multitudes of enemies and obstacles.

Developed by Arcade Distillery and directed by Luc Bernard. Mecho Tales is a challenging and unique experience in the side-scroller action genre.

Gameplay

Mecho Tales’ unique style of play is really what makes it stand out. I’ve not really played anything like it.

The controls are simple; the left analogue stick controls your character and the right analogue stick controls the drone (basically which way you want to shoot.) R2 for jumping and X for a bigger jump.

Simple though it may be that does not mean it’s easy. If anything, I found this new controller approach a challenge. The game forces you to learn the controls but not in an annoying grind-y way. It forces you to start considering things you wouldn’t before because you can now shoot 360°.

When facing enemies you can’t just keep your finger on the shoot button and stay out of their range like you could a normal side scrolling shooter. No. You need to be constantly making sure you’re moving back and forth whilst shooting with the other analogue stick.

I found myself dying so many times and it was because I wasn’t bothering to learn the enemies patterns and hit them when I could. I was rushing in all guns blazing, that doesn’t work with this game at all. It can get tricky and messy and unless you adapt and learn how to play with this new control system, you’re going nowhere fast.

Review

There’s really not much more to say other than this game is great! The art style is bright and colourful which contrasts well with the slightly more muted colours of the enemies. The controlling system is unique and challenging. The story is fun and simple to go along with.

There’s honestly nothing more to say. It’s just an absolute joy to play. Be warned though, you may get addicted!
