Your opinion about this episode in general?

R: This was a pretty good episode in general and not just because we were able to discover Felix’s (Anthony Turpel) storyline a bit more. There were some pretty good moments in general throughout the whole episode which I truly enjoyed watching. Not forgetting to mention Benji’s (George Sear) little dance and Felix and Lake (Bebe Wood) eating Schnitzel. Yeah, it’s all about the little things which also made me happy in this one. Well done!

J: I liked this episode, however I do have to say that that is mainly due to Felix’s storyline, which was definitely the highlight for me in this part. Just like the last episode, this one focused on the characters, their development and the connections between each other, which personally are the type of episodes in tv shows that I always tend to enjoy.

S: I like this episode. I feel like it brings a lot of new light to the situations for a lot of the characters. We got to see more of Felix and his mom, got to see more of Victor, his insecurity and we finally got a good guy and proper ally in Andrew (Mason Gooding).

L: Another good episode. Let’s be real this show does not make bad episodes – in my opinion. They tackle so many issues in a human way. Here Felix’s mom and Mia (Rachel Hilson)& Andrew come to play finally. I appreciate that. Also Benji leaving his prejudice of the jock stereotype, in regards to Victor actually genuinely wanting to play basketball – YES!

Victor keeps thinking that he isn’t gay enough. Andrew, Benji and his band aren’t really helping with admitting that he’s wrong about it in this episode at first. Do you think he needs to kind of sacrifice a part of his identity to forge a new one?

R: No, he truly doesn’t need to change. There’s no masterplan which you have to follow so that you can call yourself a truly gay person. You can be gay the way you want to be. The way you’re happy with it. Don’t change because people want you to. Never. It’s tough being confident about yourself in the beginning but once you’ve achieved it nothing will ever be able to stop you.

J: No. There’s no such thing as being “gay enough”. Like Rike said, never change just because someone else wants you to. It’s tough being your own person in the first place, so don’t let someone else tell you what they think is right or is wrong. That being said, like most topics in the series, it is also an issue faced in the real world. There’s still lots of discourse whether someone is “gay, bi or lesbian enough” and if you’re ever in doubt, let me tell you that you are so valid and more than enough!

S: No!! I absolutely hate the concept of ‘not being gay enough’ for people. I hate how the LGBTQ+ community is supposed to be this super inclusive place when there is this much hate and scrutiny going on in it. To be honest, I feel sorry for Victor and the fact that his surroundings aren’t helping him. I’m glad he accepts what he likes and who he is a bit more at the end of the episode.

L: No. He just needs to be and figure out further who he is and not let anyone else tell him sh*t about it! Their stereotyping was uncalled for and unnecessary.

Felix decides to take another major step in his relationship with Lake by introducing her to his mom. After some time his mom is experiencing a manic episode and Felix forces Lake to promise that she will never speak of this. But Lake decides to tell the truth when her mother notices that something is wrong. What’s gonna happen once Felix finds out about this?

R: You guys should know by now that Felix is my all time favorite character in this series. It was really sad watching him being truly excited about introducing Lake to his mom and having to deal with another setback again. There’s only so much hurt a man can take. I know that Lake just wants to help Felix by telling her mom about it, but I guess this will end pretty badly (if Felix will ever find out about it). But again I do understand that Lake wanted to get this off her chest and thought that her mom will be able to help her. I cannot wait to see what this storyline will have in store in the remaining episodes. Trouble? Happy end? More drama? Let’s find out.

J: Like I have mentioned, Felix’s story was definitely my favorite part of the episode and I absolutely loved every moment of it. I was happy to see him finally opening up to Lake and her reacting quite well. We have to remember that those characters are still young and often make choices without thinking of the potential consequences afterwards. This is what happened with Lake. Her telling her mom about Felix was something she didn’t plan on doing, but it was a spur of the moment thing. She didn’t mean to betray Felix’s trust or harm him, however I am definitely curious to see how he will react once he finds out. I truly hope that he will understand and most importantly that he will accept the help he and his mum do truly need.

S: Felix is not going to be happy. However Felix is also a what.. 17 year old? ( I always forget ages of characters) and Lake is right when she tells him that he probably needs help too. Felix doesn’t see just how much damage dealing with his depressed manic mother is doing to him and I’m glad that Lake has seen it. I don’t really have a good impression of Lake her mom so I hope she proves me wrong and helps Lake to get through to Felix about finding help for him as well. He deserves the world and I really hope that he will accept help and won’t get too angry at Lake. I can honestly already feel the storyline between him, Lake and Pilar (Isabella Ferreira) coming and I’m still not here for it.

L: He is going to be hurt. Ultimately I think he should understand though, that not talking about sth that is heavy on your heart and mind is bad. He has done it for years and he can not expect Lake to be able to deal with it the same way he has been. I hope this turns out for the better with someone else, that is another adult, knowing about it.

“It’s just who he is. You know, this whole thing with Victor, it’s made me really look at myself and really try and change. But if you’re not gonna change with me, I don’t know what the future holds.” Armando (James Martinez) confronts Isabel (Ana Ortiz). Do you think now is the time she’ll finally have a change of heart? Or are these traditional religious values gonna be too important for her in the end?

R: We talked about this story a lot already but this topic never seems to get old, right? They truly are the complete opposite when it comes to handling these religious values. Trust me, I don’t wanna understate this at all. Religion is a really important topic nowadays, but we are talking about their son. I just wish she would accept him the way he is because the truth is: He won’t change. I just hope if Armando continues to act like that, maybe Isabel will join him and go to a PFLAG meeting together one day. I’m sure this would at least help a bit. Make her more open minded about the fact that being gay isn’t something you will go to hell for. Let’s see.

J: I truly hope that she will finally be able to open her eyes, however I think that she still has to learn. I believe that it is going to be a while before she will be fully accepted, but like the others have said, she definitely is making small steps. While deep down she probably realizes that how she is treating her son is wrong, she is still stuck in her tradition and religious values to accept it.

S: I feel like she has made small steps. The fact that she told her priest she hoped the church would be a bit more open minded seemed like a good start until she told Armando that she couldn’t believe this was happening to her son. She seems very stuck into wanting to keep things the same for her and not changing even though everything around her is changing. All of the characters around her are growing, Victor with his coming out, Armando with becoming more open minded, Pilar seems to be doing her own thing and not bothering her as much anymore either. Yet Isa doesn’t seem to realise that she is the only one that hasn’t made progress yet. I hope she does this season, but we are halfway through and it’s still not great.

L: For her sake, I hope so. She is going in the right direction, kind of. Let us just hope she makes it there. Otherwise her family is going to be torn apart. Victor should not have to take disrespect and prejudice from anyone – not even his mother. His father will move on with him and fully accept him. Pilar is chill with it from day one and I doubt that Adrian (Mateo Fernandez) will mind either.

Lucy ended things with Andrew. Now after the kiss between Mia and Andrew it seems like they’re getting back together. Was it a long time coming? Or didn’t you expect this to happen at all?

R: It definitely was a long time coming. I mean, the way they’ve been looking at each other all the time. That’s not just a “friendship look” in my opinion so I wasn’t surprised when they finally kissed. Hope none of them will screw things up in the end. Also kinda curious what’s gonna happen with Lucy now. Will she get another love interest story? Or will she be the one person who’s happily enjoying her life without needing to have a boyfriend.

J: It definitely was a long time coming, however compared to everyone else here, I’m honestly not the biggest shipper of them. I’m still not completely sure what to think about Andrew. I kinda would prefer to see Mia with someone else. (Not that I have anything in mind right now, but I’m sure there’s lots of other guys around who would be a potential good fit). That being said, if Mia is happy, then that’s all that matters!

S: A very obvious long time coming. I’m glad things between Lucy and Andrew ended on a positive note and that she is the one that broke up with him though. I think this is probably the last time that we will see Lucy since she is no longer an obstacle between Andrew and Mia. We all saw this coming after season 1 and I’m glad they finally kissed.

L: This was the LITERAL longest time coming. Not surprised and very happy about it. They have always clearly cared deeply for each other, but somehow never quite made it there until now. I think they will make each other grow as people and balance out nicely.

Your score:

R: 8.5

J: 8.5

S: 8
