Locally shot ‘The Originals’ debuts Thursday on CW

Viewing party at Olde Town, Oct. 3, 9 p.m. for Vampire Diaries spinoff

Fans and locals will gather Thursday night in Olde Town in the very streets where scenes were shot for a viewing party of the TV debut of “The Originals,” the spinoff of the CW’s “The Vampire Diaries.”
The Conyers Main Street Foundation, along with Olde Town Conyers merchants, will host the premiere showing at 9 p.m. Oct. 3 on Commercial Street. The showing will be complete with a 21-foot inflatable screen.

Event goers are invited to bring lawn chairs and blankets. No alcohol or pets will be allowed.
Commercial Street will be closed from 6 p.m. to midnight for the event. The public is encouraged to come by early to dine and shop around in the Olde Town district.

Main Street Manager Monica Coffin said Olde Town businesses really wanted the event to be a chance for the community to see the role “our beautifully transformed downtown,” has played in the film.
“Due to the success of the Main Street Program’s outdoor movies this summer, they felt an outdoor premiere on the big screen would be a fitting way to encourage the community to be a part of all the excitement,” Coffin said.

And the filming of “The Originals,” is just part of it. Filming in Olde Town Conyers has taken off
Since 2010, major production filming has brought in $10.7 million to the community, according to estimates from the Conyers Rockdale Economic Development Council.

“We’re hoping everyone will appreciate the impact it’s having on the community,” said Gina Hartsell, Rockdale’s Camera Ready Liason and Conyers-Rockdale Economic Development Council representative. “There’s all kinds of residents and businesses that have felt their impact here,” not just Olde Town businesses, said Hartsell.

Although “The Originals” is premiering Thursday on the CW channel, scenes are still being shot for this seasons’ episodes until December. The show also has sets in Madison and various locations such as Twelve Oaks in Covington.A policy on handling film productions in Conyers will go before the city council tonight at 7 p.m., 1194 Scott Street The guidelines, created with input from Olde Town businesses and Rockdale’s Camera Ready Liasion to establish standard procedures and fee schedules for film and television productions in Olde Town and the city, are just a starting point, said city spokesperson Jennifer Edwards.
