Kingdom Hearts 3 Update 1.07 Overview

Kingdom Hearts 3 Update 1.07 Overview

Finally Oblivion and Oathkeeper are here!

This morning saw the release of a Kingdom Hearts 3 update (1.07) with a bunch of new content.

Keep in mind that this update was to prime the game for tomorrow’s DLC Re:Mind (ver 1.09) and all of it is absolutely free. You dont have to buy Re:Mind if you don’t want to in order to get these bonuses.

Bonuses included

  • A main Story update which include more content for the main story and more cutscenes for the main story
  • New abilities for Sora; 6 new abilities have been added for Sora. More on those below
  • The stars of the show, Oathkeeper and Oblivion keyblades! Getting these isn’t exactly easy but more on those below too
  • Expanded sharing features. I honestly have no idea what they meant by this. I’ve played it with the update and not notice a huge difference with sharing so that I can’t comment on until I have more information.

Sora’s new abilities

Sora has 6 new abilities that he can use the moment you load your game up.

They are;

  • Quick Slash (3AP):  Strike a nearby target with a quick upward slash.
  • Flash Step (3AP): Charge a faraway target while blocking.
  • Radial Blaster (3AP): Launch blade projectiles at nearby enemies.
  • Aerial Sweep (2AP): Launch a horizontal spinning attack toward a target high above.
  • Aerial Dive (2AP): Launch a vertical spinning attack toward a target down below.
  • Last Charge (7AP): Unleash a devastating blow. Your magic stat determines damage. (Combo finisher.)

From these descriptions you can see why Last Charge costs so much AP. It pretty much eliminates the need to overly compensate on strength if you’re a magic based player.

The Oblivion and Oathkeeper Keyblades

Long time Kingdom Hearts players will recognize these names. They’re probably the most well known and popular keyboards in the game, next to Sora’s OG Kingdom Key of course.

However even though they are free and do come with the free update you’ll have to do a bit of legwork to get them.

For Oathkeeper you’ll need to obtain the Proof Of Promises which you can only get once you photograph all 90 lucky emblems across the multiple worlds. This is time consuming and a drag but it’s do-able if you follow an online guide.

For Oblivion it’s a bit more of a task. You must get the Proof of Times Past which can only be obtained once you beat the game on Critical Mode. It’s not impossible but it can be difficult, especially at the start.

Hand both these items in at any Moogle shop and the keyblades will be yours, hooray!

This does carry on over multiple saves so you can have both keyblades in all your saved games if you’d like. As long as you have the Proof Of pages.

Final word

Overall this is a great update. Alot of the gaming community (myself included) worry about DLC and how some gaming companies have used it to just shill more money from paying customers to get things you usually wouldn’t or to fix issues that shouldn’t have been there in the first place.

DLC has regularly been misused by some companies to rush their game out, make a huge amount of profit on it and then charge for the parts of the game that would’ve been there anyway if it hadn’t been rushed. Making even more money.

This update makes me excited and hopeful that Re:Mind will not be at all like that and will actually be worth the expense. This is what we get for free and I’m more than happy with that so it begs the question, what does Re:Mind have in store for us?
