Kinberg expects X-Men TV shows

James McAvoy, Hugh Jackman and Nicholas Hoult reprise their roles in X-Men: Days Of Future Past

Marvel writer and producer Simon Kinberg has said there is a strong possibility that more of the superhero universe’s stars could get their own TV shows.

Simon, who wrote and produced the X-Men films, told Collider that Fox was considering whether to make more Marvel TV series like Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. and the Daredevil series which will air from 2015.

He said the X-Men stories were suited to TV: “We’re still in this place of figuring out what the future of the franchise will be, but when you look at S.H.I.E.L.D. to some extent and what Marvel is doing now with Daredevil … it makes sense to tell some of these stories on TV partly because there’s just not enough screens to do all these characters and also because the serialised format of comic books is better suited for TV.

“Because that’s it, every week you come back to the same characters, different story, and in comic books every week it’s the same characters, different story.”

Simon added that there were more possibilities now that special effects didn’t have to be so expensive.

He explained: “I think what [Fox is] seeing now is with the proliferation of new kinds of visual and special effects, there’s a way to make these stories that doesn’t cost 300 million dollars every time you have to make a huge movie.”
