With the rumors that a Divergent franchise spin-off could be on the way after the original book trilogy finishes up the four planned movies (the last book as we know has been turned into two movies, so we wouldn’t miss a thing), it could mean that the character who is headed for the spin-off could be recast for a younger actor.
Four: A Divergent Collection follows the character played by Theo James as a 16-year-old born in Abnegation. His father, Marcus Eaton, is an Abnegation council member, who is abusive to him. Tobias meets Tori, who administers his aptitude test.
He chooses Dauntless as his faction at his choosing ceremony against his father’s wishes. Later, he meets Eric, a fellow dauntless initiate, along with his instructor Amar. The latter gives him the name Four, after finding out that he has only four fears.
With the character being a 16-year-old, it may cause a problem for the 30-year-old James to play a younger version of Four, even though he will have played him for four movies. This could mean a recast could be coming with a much younger actor taking over the role for the new spin-off series if it comes to fruition.
It is always possible for the books to have the character aged up a little to make it more believable that the older James would be playing him, but by the time the first series is over, he will be close to 33 and could be wanting to move from the franchise.
Insurgent is set to open in theaters on March 20, 2015.
