Lionsgate has released the first official shots of the Rebels, who gather under Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) as she takes the fight for freedom directly to the Capitol. The group is formed of previous game survivors and refugees from the isolated districts, now under brutal oppression from the central government after Katniss disrupted the most recent tournament in Catching Fire.
The posters showcase Gale, Katniss’ best friend and sometime-romantic interest, played by Liam Hemsworth; Boggs, the right-hand man of Julianne Moore’s Commander Coin, played by Mahershala Ali; Cressida, a director and former resident of the Capitol who documents Katniss’ journey, portrayed by Natalie Dormer; her assistant Messalla, played by Evan Ross; and Cressida’s camera crew Pollux and Castor, played by Elden Henson and Wes Chatham respectively.
While the posters don’t give anything away about the film’s events — at least, nothing beyond what fans of the series will already know — using the iconography of the bird in flight to give the characters angel wings is certainly striking.
