Review:
I really enjoyed Mina Vaughn’s first novel “How to Discipline your Vampire”, so I grabbed “How to Reprimand your Rock Star” as soon as I could get my grubby little paws on it.
Ms. Vaughn is a true kinkmaster and I love her characters. They have a depth to them that few other authors manage successfully. Her storylines are unpredictable and the sex is awesomely kinky. She writes kink in a truly believable way.
This novel is a lovely read that I recommend highly.
I had the awesome opportunity to chat to the wonderful Ms. Vaughn and I share her wisdom with you all.
Interview:
1. Any particular rock star your inspiration for your character? If not who would you say resembles him most?
Yes! Ok, so the inspiration for Keaton’s spunk, his vitality on and off stage, was inspired by Billie Joe Armstrong from Green Day. I love how Billie Joe is so much fun, so much of a scamp. I really wanted a rock star who was lively. As for looks, I have to say I picture the oh so sexy Tom Hiddleston as Keaton. He’s British, lanky and just oozes sexuality.
2. Any particular author you look to for inspiration? More than one?
I’m inspired by a lot of authors! I love Alice Clayton’s humor, Helena Hunting’s steam, E. L. James’ sense of magnetism, Debra Anastasia’s heart and Tiffany Reisz’s snark.
3. Why kink and is it fun to write?
Kink is something that I’ve been doing for a long time, and I want people to know it’s not scary or intimidating. It can be fun and light! I think it’s fun because it’s another method of sexual expression. You don’t need leather and pain for BDSM, it can be about bondage and power and still make you smile.
4. Favourite character in this book and why?
I love Scarlett! She’s so alive, so free-spirited. I think she’s a really great foil for Thea, who is so serious and innocent. Plus, Scarlett is very sexual so it was fun to write her scenes. She was far more daring than Thea!
5. Did you do much research and what form of research did you do?
Well, as for the BDSM stuff I only had to do light research since I’ve been doing it a while, but as for the rock star stuff, I consulted a good friend who dates a rocker. She gave me info of how backstage works. My good friend Sarah Henning gave me lots of insight on the NCAA tournament, and I wouldn’t be able to have written the timeline without her!
