Gravity Duck Game Review – Cute but repetitive

Gravity Duck is fun but unlikely to be a game you’ll play for a long period of time.

This game was suggested to me by a friend recently and I’m glad they did. But it’s definitely not without it’s problems.

Developed by Woblyware Games and Ratalaika Games and published by Ratalaika Games also. It’s a very basic game where your character (the duck) is given the power over gravity itself. Using this power you must flip yourself upside down, left and right. Walking up walls at every angle to clear puzzles and collect the golden eggs.

Review

GD is a game that’s easy to describe but hard to make an assessment on. It definitely has more positives than negatives. However, I can’t help but feel that the reason it has hardly any negatives is because there’s not much to get wrong.

It’s fun and addictive but only to a level. I can honestly say that this is one of those games that would easily be ignored if you’ve got other games on your console, purely from boredom I think. The issue isn’t that the game is inherently boring but that it’s an odd mix between being insultingly easy and frustratingly difficult with no real logic behind it. For example, some of the easiest levels got me killed at least 5 times but I get to around level 12 and I clear it with no trouble whatsoever.

The difficulty level doesn’t seem to follow a curve like most games of this kind of genre does. I’m not sure if that’s intentional or not but if it was, it was a mistake. It makes the game one of those that you’ll easily just switch with another because you get annoyed by it. And it’s so frustrating that no amount of unique gameplay can save it from that.

And that’s what makes me sad really. I genuinely love this game when I’m playing it. And then I find myself at some random level that’s a nightmare to clear, then the level after it is easy as and I just lose interest because of how unreasonable the level difficulty is.

Closing thoughts

I’m glad my pal encouraged me to play Gravity Duck. I genuinely do love it but I do feel as if somewhere went hideously wrong when deciding on level difficulties. They make no sense. I’d happily love to see a sequel to this game at some point. Maybe iron out the one issue I had with it because, without that, it genuinely is a fun little gem. I played it only on the Vita so I can’t speak for how it plays on the PS4 but I imagine it’s alot of the same.

For £3.99 it’s a cheap, cute and fun little game to have in your collection. Just be prepared to get very, very, frustrated.
