Game Of Thrones – Looking Back with Ian McElhinney

With the end of Game of Thrones in sight (just three more episodes!!) we got in touch with some former cast members and posed them a few questions. First up was the wonderful Ian McElhinney who played Ser Barristan Selmy in the first five seasons.

FN: What was your favourite personal moment

Rejecting  Cersei and Joffrey ‘s offer, throwing the sword and storming out in season 1.

FN What is your favourite moment of the series so far?

The Red Wedding!

FN: Did you know while filming how your character’s story would tie in to the larger plot overall?

I didn’t know how my character’s story would develop, but having read the books I had hopes he might survive to the end or have a glorious death in noble battle for his queen.
Unfortunately that is not how it turned out.

Ian McElhinney as Ser Barristan

FN: Who do you think will sit the Iron Throne at the end of the show?

Who knows. Could be Bran. Could be total annihilation.

Huge thanks to Ian McElhinney for answering our questions. If you have any burning questions of your own then keep your eyes peeled. He is a regular on the convention circuit all over the world. His next appearance will be at ThroneFest 2 in Kent on the 19th of May. Tickets are available from their website.

Keep your eyes peeled for more chats with some of the other stars of Game of Thrones coming up over the next few weeks. Also check back for our episode previews and roundtable discussions.

About author(s)

Clare Hemsworth

Hey, I'm Clare, aka Ciara or C. My current fandoms are RWBY and The Last Kingdom along with a bunch of other stuff I tend to let build up and then binge! I'm a keen, albeit amateur, cosplayer and love attending cons in various cosplays. I'm also the resident comic book girl around these parts, especially small press comics, so if you've got an indie book you want reviewed, I'm your gal! When I'm not doing the fangirl thing I am a keen long-distance hiker, having completed Te Araroa in New Zealand and The Pacific Crest Trail on the West Coast of the US.
