Last night on Jimmy Kimmel Live, John Stamos finally made the official announcement that a Full House sequel is indeed coming to Netflix in 2016. Giving a bit of insight, Stamos said that it will be a role reversal with D.J. being a mother of three boys. However, the press release Netflix dropped in tandem via MTV.com gives a bit more info on that role reversal. DJ Tanner’s life has not been all sunshine and rainbows. Here’s the plot synopsis of “Fuller Houser,” according to Netflix:
In ’Fuller House,’ the adventures that began in 1987 on ’Full House’ continue, with veterinarian D.J. Tanner-Fuller (Cameron-Bure) pregnant and recently widowed, living in San Francisco. D.J.’s younger sister/aspiring musician Stephanie Tanner (Sweetin) and D.J.’s lifelong best friend/fellow single mother Kimmy Gibbler (Barber), along with Kimmy’s feisty teenage daughter Ramona, all move in to help take care of D.J.’s two boys — the rebellious 12-year-old J.D. and neurotic 7-year-old Max — and her soon-to-arrive baby.
Before anyone gets too excited, D.J.’s boyfriend Steve’s last name was Hale, which means that Steve is ostensibly still alive and well, although no word yet on his possible involvement in the series. Maybe D.J. and Steve continued to date into college where he ended up dying in a fraternity hazing incident… because all of D.J.’s boyfriends and husbands meet their untimely demise. Why not! When you’re already starting out with a pregnant widow, the sky’s the limit.
At any rate, while nothing is confirmed, discussions are still ongoing with Bob Saget, Dave Coulier, Lori Loughlin, and the Olsen twins to reprise their roles. If I had to guess, I’d say at least the three former will pop up at some point.
