Fans of Pitch on Fox campaign for its return

Why you should watch Pitch and then help to save it

Fans of the television show Pitch have begun a campaign to let Fox Studios know how badly they want the show to return for a second season. Some are even sending baseballs to Fox executives to get their message heard.

Pitch is the dramatic and inspirational story of Ginny Baker, the first female baseball player for Major League Baseball. This fictional story is brought to life by Executive Producer Dan Fogelman, the mastermind behind This is Us.

Pitch is a damn good show and has a 93% critic score at Rotten Tomatoes. It gives you classic baseball action, real life drama, and servings of romance- something for everyone. It is emotional without being schmaltzy and inspirational without being cloying. It’s as if Friday Night Lights and The West Wing had a baby and raised her to be a badass.

The show is unapologetically feminist. When it comes to playing a mens-only sport, getting into brawls, or having conversations about rape cultural and social media, Pitch is proving that women belong wherever they want to be.

Major League Baseball is supporting the show by granting unprecedented access and ensuring all of the on-field action, uniforms, announcers, and use of the baseball stadiums come across as authentic.

Kylie Bunbury as Ginny will have you rooting for her as she faces the skeptics and deals with the mounting pressure of being a major league ball player and role model. You will find yourself wanting to be her, her best friend, and her date, all at the same.

Surprise! Mark-Paul Gosselaar plays the veteran catcher, Mike. Arguably one of the best performances of his career, he is at times cranky, narcissistic, vulnerable, and lost. And he is always, always delicious to look at. Especially with the beard.

Together, the characters of Mike and Ginny electrify each scene. Whether they are playing ball, arguing, or goofing off, their chemistry is palpable.

Pitch will have you falling in the love with the rest of the cast and characters as well. Ginny relies on her agent, teammates, and friends to help her navigate becoming the most famous woman in the world.

Given the current political climate, this show that is fighting for equality, featuring supportive friendships among women, showing happy and whole black families, highlighting the talents and importance of immigrants, and championing people working for their dreams needs to be watched, loved, and renewed.

You can catch up at: Fox.com, Hulu, iTunes, Amazon, and On-Demand.
