Five Facts about ‘Outlander’ Star Caitriona Balfe

We have focused on our fave heartthrob Sam Heuhgan star of Outlander in many articles. Today I would like to introduce you to our Claire, Caitriona Balfe. Their onscreen chemistry is electric, and both are quite coy when asked if they are a real life pair. We have all seen and read the rumors, having our on screen couple become a real life couple would be the epitome of perfection and completion in many a fans lives. This is not that kind of article. All the Basics

Caitriona Balfe was born in Dublin, Ireland on October 4, 1979  and grew up in the village of Tydavnet, near Monaghan, in a family of seven. you pronounce her name ‘Ka-TREE-na Balf’  She credits her living in the countryside and her years of modeling as to giving her the maturity she needed to get the role of a lifetime as Claire Beauchamp/Randall/Fraser.

She started modeling after she was scouted by an agent while she was collecting money for charity at a local mall, after a few months of working as a model in Dublin, she caught the attention of a Ford Models scout, who at nineteen offered her the chance to work for them in Paris. Some of her modelling career highlights include opening the 2002 Chanel Autumn/Winter Haute Couture show, closing the 2002 Givenchy Autumn/Winter Haute Couture show.

 

She Wanted to Be an Actress

Before she started modelling, Balfe was studying Drama at the Dublin Institute of Technology. While living in New York, she played the part of an employee of the magazine “Runway” in the 2006 film The Devil Wears Prada. In 2009 after an eight year modeling career, Caitriona moved from NYC to LA to pursue her love of acting. You’ve seen her in Super 8, Now You See Me, and Escape Plan.

Sam Heughan has the Heughligans, but did you know that Caitriona has the Caitriots? When interviewed by Vulture Balfe was amazed and blown away about the imagination and creativity of her fans.

“Very inventive — I don’t think I was ever so imaginative. And it’s been really nice. It’s just a bit overwhelming and a bit humbling sometimes. I got, I don’t know how many pages there are, 15 to 20 pages of printouts of all these greetings and well-wishes from the Caitriots. Hundreds of notes from people you’ve never met, that you don’t know, and they’re all just wishing you well and saying congratulations! And both groups are selling TV shirts and donating to charities that we support in our name, and you’re like, Wow.”


A little over a year ago, Caitriona was waiting to hear back about two roles she was up for.

“You get your hopes up and you sort of want to be in these shows, but I always think that you get the job that you’re supposed to,” she told Access. “You know, it’s funny, I’d been up for another job the same week I was up for Outlander, and we were trying to figure out which was going to go first, and I got the job that I was supposed to get, I believe, and I’m very happy that I did.”
