I’ve always wondered how actors get into character for the role they are going to portray. Whether it be a mass murderer or a love sick puppy, you would think that after reading a script and deciding that they want to take it, they must think “Okay, now how am I going to play this part where it’s believable to an audience of millions?”
So taking that question into consideration, when Focus Features (art house division of NBCUniversal) decided to turn EL James best-selling book Fifty Shades of Grey into a movie, how is Jamie Dornan going to make the character of Christian Grey his own. Well the answer he gave for the February 2015 Elle UK magazine was simple, he visited local S&M clubs.
“I went there, they offered me a beer, and they did…whatever they were into. I saw a dominant with one of his two submissives,” he says.
There was plenty of kink… and plenty laughter. “I was like: ‘Come on guys I know I’m not paying for this but I am expecting a show.’ It was an interesting evening. Then going back to my wife and newborn baby afterwards… I had a long shower before touching either of them.” Elle UK
I guess that answers my question!!! I can’t say I saw this coming, but if you really want to get into character, you’ll do what it takes! Now…what exactly did he take away from his experience to use? I guess we will find out on Valentine’s Day!
