The season finale of Penny Dreadful: City of Angels is here and so it’s time for our Day of the Dead Spoiler Free Preview. This one is going to be really hard to dance around spoilers so please bear with me.

Synopsis
Peter Craft (Rory Kinnear), Elsa and the boys are trapped amidst a riot. Townsend (Michael Gladis) celebrates the rise of his political fortunes. Tiago and Molly (Kerry Bishé) face reality about their relationship. Lewis and Tiago rush to protect Brian (Kyle McArthur). The Vegas celebrate the Day of the Dead. Starring Natalie Dormer, Daniel Zovatto, and Nathan Lane.

The Day of the Dead.
As season finales go this was an interesting one. I think I was expecting more violence and bloodshed than we got. That seemed to be what the season was building up to. If anything this finale was a continuation of the slow burn of the rest of the season, and a perfect set up for a second season, if we get one (cross everything). While some questions were answered, it left me with a lot more. And the answers aren’t always what you might have expected.
There are some standout scenes, for example Rio leading the Pachucos out into the city, that felt especially poignant. On several occassions while watching this episode I did wonder if the writers had a time machine and had hopped forward to experience recent events.
There are some shocks in this episode. There are a number of character deaths, some of which hit harder than others, so be prepared.
Also some choices made by characters that surprised me. The episode ends with several characters pivoting from the course we had seen them on to a different path. If we don’t get a second season I will be very surprised. Also disappointed because these changes could have huge implications.
There really isn’t much more I can say without getting really spoilery this week so I’m afraid this Day of the Dead Spoiler Free preview will have to end here.
