Cyberpunk 2077 Game Review – A glorious deep dive into the future

Cyberpunk 2077 is probably one of the best games I’ve played this year. It’s also one of the most frustrating (no, not for the reasons you think.)

Cyberpunk is a great game, it has so much content that I know I’ll be getting my money’s worth of content here. I was amazed at the amount of people and places I was able to interact with and get involved in. Not to mention the game has so many different endings depending on your choices. After a certain point in the game anyway. That it becomes genuinely addictive.

Plot

Cyberpunk 2077 is a futuristic open world action adventure RPG. Set in Night City, a megalopolis obsessed with power, corruption and body modifications. You play as V and become a mercenary outlaw that has to recover or retrieve an implant that is the key to immortality. There is much more to the story but that would be very spoiler-y so I’ll keep the explanations simple.

Buggy or not buggy?

OK. I wasn’t going to address this but it has become a huge thing so I decided it’s best to. Cyberpunk 2077 has it’s flaws, of course it does. In all my gameplay (I played on PS5) I only encountered one bug. As I was hacking into cameras, if I pressed the jump button V would float in mid-air until I came out of the hacking option and went back in. Honestly takes less than a second to do it so it’s not even, in my eyes, considered noteworthy but for the sake of fairness I had to bring it up. The game, for the last two days, has been slammed negatively. From people immediately creating a storm over flashing lights to it being labelled a “buggy mess.” I’m sorry but I just haven’t experienced it. Unless you’re trying to make the game bug out it generally won’t. At least, mine didn’t.

So what do I personally think?

Having said that I do believe that it is buggy on some consoles and PCs but I think that’s more of a “this game was made for more powerful consoles” issue than it is that the game is just generally poorly made. Keep in mind, this game and it’s developers were getting death threats (along with their families) whenever they pushed the date back. It makes sense that they’d try and get it out as soon as possible. Even if it’s running at 98%. Then finish the next 2% later to stop the need to keep pushing back and continuous abuse their developer’s were getting.

Review

Overall this is a near perfect game. I’ve yet to find something about it that annoys me or I don’t like. The game plays well, the characters are vibrant and interesting. Even the more hateable characters are interesting enough that you kinda want to be the villain just to get to know them better. I chose the Corpo lifepath so maybe it’s just me. But I just loved how you can work for the bad guys. Kiss the boss’ backside as much as you want but it still won’t get you anywhere. It’s cruel but that’s the world of Cyberpunk 2077. Take the punches and roll with them. Evolve to survive or die.

It’s grim. Gritty. Filthy. And I love it!
