It’s been a good week for returning stories but this one made me happier than anything.
After the devastating death of Allison Argent at the hands of a Nogitsune-controlled Oni at the end of season 3, there has been a very Crystal Reed-shaped hole in the hearts of many Teen Wolf fans.
Well it’s time to rejoice, Crystal is coming back, just not as Allison.
SPOILERS AHEAD – CONSIDER YOURSELF WARNED
According to a report on Buzzfeed earlier in the week, Crystal will be returning in a series of flashbacks, playing Allison’s ancestor, Marie-Jeanne Valet, aka the Maid of Gévaudan.
Those of you who remember your Argent family history from earlier seasons will recall the town of Gévaudan being where the Argents originated, and where they developed into werewolf hunters. You’ll hopefully also remember that in the Argent family it is the women who make the big decisions, the men are just the soldiers, and I think this history of Marie-Jeanne will give us an indication where that tradition began.
Now why are they talking about Argent family history you ask? Aren’t the Dread Doctors a slightly more pressing concern? Well according to show creator Jeff Davis, The Beast is Back and if my quick bit of digging online is anything to go by it seems like the Dread Doctors are the ones responsible for resurrecting the beast (see the end of Season 5A, The Dread Doctor demolishing the wall to reveal the picture of two creatures fighting, one of the Dread Doctors kept repeating “Le Bete, Le Bete, Le Bete.” Le bete is obviously French for The Beast.)

Allison’s grandfather, Gerard Argent (Michael Hogan), will apparently tell the story of how Marie-Jeanne originally defeated the beast to Scott’s pack in hopes they can work out how to defeat the thing now it’s been resurrected in Beacon Hills.
Buzzfeed also had some wonderful shots of Crystal as Marie-Jeanne to share with us. Check em out below and then let us know what you think about Crystal’s return.
The flashback episode, titled The Maid of Gevaudan, will air on February 23rd.
