‘Constantine’ Solid in Premiere Opposite World Series

A year ago, NBC fared better with both its Grimm premiere (1.8/6 in 18-49, 6.2 million) and the series premiere behind it, Dracula (1.8/6 in 18-49, 5.3 million viewers overall), but last night’s combo faced tougher competition in the form of Game 3 of the World Series.

Constantine, based on a DC Comics character, held steady in its second half-hour, a good sign for a 10 p.m. show. Last year, Dracula had fallen to a 0.9 rating just two weeks after its premiere, so the net will hope this fall’s newbie can hold up better.

The World Series game, won by the Kansas City Royals, averaged a 2.5/9 in 18-49 and 9.9 million viewers overall on Fox’s stations from 8 to 11 p.m., with the game’s final averages expected to be at least 10% higher. While these are the lowest numbers of the Series (to be expected on lightly watched Friday), Fox dominated the night in demos. Game 4 is tonight.
