Life can change in the blink of an eye. One moment, Lily is trapped in a loveless marriage. In a split second she is free, but at what cost?  Her mundane life is set into a freefall of tragedy and terror. Her husband may be out of her life, but he left a storm of collateral damage behind and the burden is on Lily to sort it out.

Fate connects Lily with Gavin, a charmingly handsome British gentleman that has been drawn into her tangled circumstance. Gavin is everything Lily’s husband wasn’t and gives her hope that love really does exist. Gavin wants nothing more than to sweep Lily up and carry her off into the sunset, far away from the devastation left behind by her husband. Gavin has been the first breath of fresh air in her life, but she isn’t looking to be saved. She needs to clean up her husband’s mess and find a way to save herself in the process.

Does she throw caution to the wind and open her heart? Or listen to her head that tells her and go it alone until she’s found herself again?

This book contains adult content.

Isabelle Richards exceeded my expectations with this story. I loved the plot line and how the action started almost immediately. I loved the different twists and turns, the friendships that were forged between Lily and the agents, and the comfortable banter between the characters. Most of all, however, I loved the romance that brewed up and the slow burn that eventually ignited into a full-blown flame.

Gavin caught my attention right away and it didn’t take very long for me to fall in love with his character. (The British accent only helped matters, ha!) He’s sweet and charming, and from the get go he has Lily’s best interests at heart, which is evident by his actions. And of course some of the things he did are sexy as hell.

Lily is an amazing character as well. She’s been through hell, but she’s so so so strong, and when most people would give up and say “screw it” to everything, she keeps moving forward. She’s determined to start over in a way that’s healthy for her. I loved watching her transformation through the book, from a semi-grieving widower to this almost butterfly that’s spreading her wings and taking flight and starting to do all of these things that she loves but was never able to do before.

There’s chemistry between these two from the get go, but Richards doesn’t just let things blossom immediately. She gives us a slow burn, and as these two go through ups and downs together, we start to see a romance budding between them.

There was a point in time when I got a little irritated with Lily’s hesitation about Gavin. I got it and I understood the reasoning behind it, but it eventually seemed like it was just drawn out a little too much.

Overall, I loved this book. I got hooked on it, there was so much action, and it was very, very well written. I liked the characters, there was good development, the details between the back story and the present were consistent, and honestly, once I got to the big climactic part, I had to keep reading and didn’t stop until I had everything finished. I love when authors write in a way that makes me feel like I’m actually living in the story, and that’s how Richards wrote this one. I would love to read more of Isabelle’s work, and can’t wait until the next book in this series drops. I’m craving more of Gavin and Lily, and I think if you give this story a chance, you will be too!
