The topic of another Blade movie, be it another sequel or a reboot, has been kicking around for years, and with Marvel enjoying such tremendous success at the box office right now it’s hard to see why they wouldn’t add another weapon to their already impressive arsenal. That being said, there are some whispers reaching our ears that it’s looking more likely to be a Blade reboot and that FN fave Michael B Jordan (Creed, Chronicle) could be in the running for the title role.

Moviepilot posted on April 1st, so this could be nothing more than an elaborate prank, but the idea certainly has merit, especially now that Spiderman is back in the MCU fold, since Blade and Spidey have comic book/cartoon history. I love the idea of tying Blade into this larger, established universe, when previously the movies existed as their own separate universe. Having a hard time imagining vampires in the same world as Iron Man? You guys are remembering this is the comic book universe that’s brought us a talking Racoon and his giant tree bodyguard right? Also – Dr Strange… There’s plenty of supernatural weirdness in Marvel and I think it could be a great fit.
It also raises the question of ratings again though. Since currently Marvel is confining their “darker”, R-rated fare to their Netflix shows (Daredevil, Jessica Jones, the forthcoming Luke Cage), would this be the first R-rated movie to tie into this larger universe or would they have to tone down the themes to fit in with the big-screen world they have created so far. I think a Blade series, in the vein (pun intended) of the current Defenders shows on Netflix, could be great. They are limited episode series’ so wouldn’t tie whoever took the lead role down too much and they could eventually work up to a movie depending on the reception they get.
