Attack On Titan Epiosde 67

Attack On Titan is back to tear out our hearts again. This time, it’s a beloved character bites the dust in the cruelest way possible.

Now onto the overview, there’s alot to unpack here…

Overview

Continuing on from episode 66’s sudden retreat. Eren manages to floor Reiner with one punch but even he knows he won’t survive another round if Reiner gets up and fights. He decides enough is enough and retreats with Mikasa and everyone else. It’s confirmed that the total dead for the survey corps team is only 6 and they celebrate their victory against those that kept them trapped. However, still fuming from the deaths of her two friends Gabi shoots a general and uses his gear to board the airships. She seizes her moment when noone is paying attention, shoots and kills Sasha.

It’s also confirmed that Levi and the rest of the survey corps didn’t know anything about Eren’s plan to get captured. They get rightfully annoyed at him and he’s put in chains. This also confirms that they probably don’t know what he’s been saying to Zeke via the letters, meaning we still don’t know what his ultimate goal here is.

Review

This, like episode 65 and 66, is another turning point episode. I knew what was coming but that didn’t stop me from having to hold back tears when it was finally confirmed by Conny that Sasha was dead. Eren’s flashback of her just got to me. Sasha was a character I never had as a favourite. But liked her all the same. Yet the tragic way she died still shattered my heart in two. The fact that Gabi knew nothing of Zeke’s involvement and killed Sasha partly as an act of revenge for him is even more disturbing. Gabi basically being a mini-Eren this won’t faze her much and she’ll just go on trying to kill the walldians.

I loved this episode as much as I hated what happened in it. Of course it wasn’t all hard hitting titans murdering people. But now we’ve got people murdering people and that’s far more interesting. Not being able to 100% anticipate Gabi and Falco’s fate or choices is making them far more interesting characters. And even though I’m anti-Gabi now I feel that may change if the writing stays at this kind of quality.
