9-1-1 -- season 6 episode 6 -- Tomorrow -- Aisha Hinds

Honorable Mentions

The episode opens with a flashback to 2010, when Hen (Aisha Hinds) and Karen (Tracie Thoms) first met. Karen is talking about what she does at the lab. As it turns out, Hen was supposed to meet her friend, and Karen was supposed to meet her date. The friend and date was Chimney (Kenneth Choi). The man set both of them up, and Chimney just doing a good deed and set his friend up and help her move on from an ex. Throughout the episode, we got to see their relationship grow through flashbacks.

My Favorite and/or Least Favorite Part

I love how we got to see more of Karen and Denny (Declan Pratt) in this episode. Most of the time we only get to see them in passing or very minor parts of the season. We are also seeing what Karen does for work, which I recall we really didn’t hear much of in previous seasons. In the earlier parts of the episode, we are seeing parental bonding between Karen and Denny as she takes him to the lab. For the record, she is a rocket scientist.

Karen was showing Denny all around the lab, all the equipment, and multiple tests that they conduct before sending anything to space. Informing him all of what they can do and what they can teach them about the mysteries of space. Everything was running smoothly for a while, but when the coolant system is disabled in one of the rooms when an explosion happens in another lab. Denny was able to get out, but Karen was still inside the building.

“Life as you know it is about to change.” – Diedra (Andi Chapman)

Standout Moment

The 118 was called onto the scene after the lab exploded. Since Hen is no longer a firefighter, she is forced to sit out and let her 118 family look for Karen. After gaining entry into the labs, the team encountered debris from the explosion and multiple mini-fires throughout. Captain Bobby (Peter Krause) is yelling out orders to the team when they find Karen who only had a few cuts and bruises. They focus on one of the scientists who is missing an arm, Eddie (Ryan Guzman) needed to stabilize the victim before they could make them.

While Hen and Athena (Angela Bassett) were outside waiting for word about Karen, an injured scientist stumbled across them. The scientist has multiple face fractures and writes out a warning informing them of the danger of the coolant system. Upon discovering that the coolant system is disabled, Karen informs the team that if anyone opens the door to that lab, the room will explode. Another firefighter from a different station didn’t hear the warning, but Bobby was able to save him just as the door exploded.

The chaos of this episode doesn’t end there. When Karen reaches her family and finds a moment to catch her breath, she collapses. It’s discovers that she has a deep laceration on the side of her ribs, and now the team is racing to save her life. In the fire rescue truck, Hen was able to save Karen before arriving at the hospital.

My Overall Thoughts on the Episode

We knew from season one of the ups and downs of Karen and Hen’s relationship and the struggles they have been through. But in this episode, we got to see how they met and eventually how they adopted their son Denny. It didn’t stop Han from doing her job as a paramedic, even though she wasn’t allowed in the building. On a side note, we also see the depth of Chimney and Hen’s friendship. This episode really stirs up the emotions for one of our favorite couples and has us thinking the worst for the fate of Karen. At the end of the episode Hen tosses out her resignation forms for the fire department, she is quitting med school. Telling Karen that the only things that matter are being a firefighter, a mom, and a wife.

The next episode will air on November 7th.
You can watch all previous seasons on Hulu.
