The episode starts off with a flashback of six months ago with what happened with Maddie and baby Jee-Yun during the blackout and why she felt the need to leave. We see how depressed Maddie becomes with the thought that her baby is not safe with her. Maddie is so depressed that she attempts to drown in the ocean, experiencing flashbacks from her life; she comes to and surfaces when the flashbacks stop on Chimney and baby Jee-Yun.

Now we are now taken three days after the event in the ocean; Maddie admits to a doctor that she has a past of suicide thoughts as early as 10 years old, that there is a history of depression in the family. Maddie is admitted into the hospital in Boston. After an extensive amount of tests it is discovered that she is suffering from Postpartum Thyroiditis. The doctor explains that first the thyroid is overactive and the symptoms are your typical baby blues then eventually slows down or in some cases stops.

After Maddie is discharged from the hospital she starts attending a women’s support group where she meets a new friend, Kira (A.J. Cook); and together the two women support each other and are there for one another.

Chimney

After Chimney gets a phone call from Buck (Oliver Stark), who believes Maddie is in Boston after hearing church bells on the one brief phone call Buck had with her, Chimney makes his way to Boston with baby Jee-Yun. With some advice from Athena (Angela Bassett) that he should file a missing persons report on Maddie since they don’t know for sure that she is in Boston. Though after getting some sound advice from an old friend, Eli (Mac Brandt), he suggests that Chimney needs to get back into the world that needs him.

Saint Patrick’s Day

While in her support group Maddie tells them that she is ready to return home and that she is feeling that she is ready. Maddie is trying to help her friend Kira when she sees the missing persons sign and realizes that Chimney was still looking for her, making Kira realize that Maddie could have gone home this whole time. Chimney is now a volunteer paramedic and is experiencing chaos that is Saint Patrick’s day in Boston.

9-1-1 - Boston

After attempting to help her friend Kira, who is very drunk, starts aspirating from the amount of alcohol in her system; Maddie is trying to wake her friend up when paramedics pull up, Chimney and his friend Eli. This is the first time the two have seen each other in six months.

Reunited

Our favorite couple are finally able to talk; it’s now when Chimney finds out that Maddie attempted to kill herself; she tells him that she got out of the ocean for him and Jee-Yun. The two apologize to each other; Maddie for everything that she has put him through; Chimney for not being there for her, for leaving and not seeing/ignoring the warning signs. They both realize they spent too much time hiding from the truth and that they need to be honest about how they feel and want. Chimney takes Maddie to baby Jee-Yun who has grown so much over the six months, Maddie breaks down for missing so much and that she is now a stranger to her baby.

The next day Chimney brings Jee-Yun over to Maddie’s apartment, little Jee-Yun is throwing a tantrum after being told no park for playtime. Getting an idea, Maddie sings “Wheels on the bus” and immediately Jee-Yun calls out mama, obviously remembering Maddie’s voice. Maddie tells Chimney that she wants to go home. As the episode ends we see the family reunited and singing with a happy baby.
