Shadowhunters – On Infernal Ground Spoiler Free Preview

takes a deep breath flails like Kermit BECAUSE SHADOWHUNTERS IS BACK. Y’all have been so SO patient over the hiatus, I know it’s been tough, it’s been long, and we are all thirsty for anything we can get. So sit back, because it’s time for our On Infernal Ground Spoiler Free Preview.

It’s been so long since I’ve done one of these… and I’m still trying to calm down after watching. You’re gonna have to bear with me guys.

The good stuff

There were at least half a dozen moments where I threw down my pen and yelled at the screen in sheer awe. And 2 of those happen in, like, the first couple of minutes. Matt Hastings is seriously on his directing A game this episode, there are some seriously cool new camera techniques all of which lift the episode higher than previous seasons.

We get a look very early on at a couple of what I’m sure are going to be key locations this season and they look incredible. Like, Holy Demon Towers Batman, Alicante truly is the City of Glass. And it’s beautiful! The VFX team have seriously upped their game this season if the opening is anything to go by. All apart from 1 effect at the end of episode that made me snigger with how dodgy it looked.

The fight sequences this season also look like they are going to be even more impressive. There is a Clace training scene that is even more badass than the last one.

After Ollie’s little bombshell at the end of season 2, Luke (Isaiah Mustafa) has his work cut out handling her, but he does it with style. Like a proper Alpha.

Secrets and Lies

There are a lot of lies and an equal amount of truths spilled in this episode. While some truths are exposed, some people are keeping secrets that are no doubt going to explode in major fashion at some point this season. Lies and truth form a big part of Malec’s story in this episode, but more than that would be saying too much. These two are still working on their communication again and it’s a bumpy ride.

There are some really nice character moments, especially for Izzy (Emeraude Toubia). She’s had a very cool promotion within the Institute, and there is some quality Lightwood sibling banter later in the episode that made my heart swell with happiness. She also gets her flirt on in a really cute scene.

Oh god, have I mentioned how much I have missed Alberto Rosende singing? Because I have. And I forgot how much until this episode… just prepare yourselves. Also it happens in the Seelie Court and it’s so great to have Jade Hassoune and the fabulous Lola Flanery back.

Speaking of preparing yourselves… if you’re a Jace/Dom Sherwood/Clace fan you’re probably going to need a fainting couch handy cos they SIZZLE. I don’t make the rules, I just call it like I see it, and it’s hot. Like open a window hot. Those of you who have read my reviews and previews before know I am a hardcore Jace girl and this episode left me very happy indeed. He gets the hot, flirty, sexy stuff with Clary, but he’s also got some intense emotional stuff going on.

What else can I tell you… Alec (Matthew Daddario) is worried about his parabatai, he KNOWS something happened. He keeps pushing Jace to tell him the truth, but Jace is buried deep in his own torment right now. I am worried for their relationship at the moment, they have been through so much in the past two seasons, but I know they are gonna work this out.

The less good stuff

I adored the episode, it’s fast, and there is a lot going on. I did have two tiny grumbles. One was the VFX shot I mentioned earlier, it’s jarring enough to drag you right out of the very tense scene it happens in. At least it was for me. The other, and this is totally tiny, but Clary (Kat McNamara) wearing what appears to be a white/grey dress when we first see her made me go “huh?”. She’s a Shadowhunter and should be in black. In this world, those colours MEAN something, and they aren’t appropriate for the situation.

Okay, that is it.
