Captain America: Civil War has fifth best opening of all time

With over $180 million in domestic box office this weekend, Captain America: Civil War soars!

I don’t think anyone is surprised that Captain America: Civil War opened huge this weekend. Marvel (knock on wood) seems to continue to do no wrong. This is the fourth Marvel film to place among the top ten best domestic opening weekends of all time. The only question remaining now is where the film will eventually land in total box office gross. Repeat viewings seem to be rampant among fans of the film, lending to predictions that the title will continue to be number one in the box office throughout the rest of the month.

Anthony and Joe Russo have guided this cast of characters to stellar success, and we can’t wait to see what is to come as the same directors helm two upcoming films in the Marvel cinematic universe. Previously, it was announced that the next two films featuring Avengers characters would be titled Infinity War Parts I & II, but the directors recently revealed that they had plans to change those titles. The as yet untitled next installment will arrive in theaters May 4, 2018, with the second film arriving the following year. Shooting begins in Atlanta in November.
