WonderCon 2023

WonderCon 2023

Sadly, I didn’t get to attend WonderCon 2023 as planned. However, I did find out some cool WonderCon facts for all my con lovers out there that didn’t get to attend either.

I had a thought that WonderCon was called Wonder Con because if you ever wonder about how something was made behind the scenes this was the con for you. I know all cons have behind-the-scenes panels and booths but WonderCon doesn’t have the huge movie trailer releases or A-list movie stars of other events. What it does have is amazingly detailed panels about stunt doubles or choreographed fight scenes or cool comic book artists, as well as all kinds of games, from role-play to dice to Pokémon – they have them.

WonderCon facts

  • WonderCon 2023 is produced by the people who bring you Comic-Con in San Diego.
  • Owing to the growing popularity of the event this year they welcomed attendees from the following locations: Afghanistan, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Costa Rica, Denmark, Egypt, Finland, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Iceland, Israel, Japan, Kuwait, Mexico, Monaco, Netherlands, New Zealand, Peru, Philippines, Poland, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, United Kingdom, and the United States.
  • WonderCon has its roots in the San Francisco Bay Area. The convention originated in 1987 in Oakland, relocated to San Francisco, and moved to Anaheim in 2012 where it continued to grow. After spending 2016 in Los Angeles, WonderCon returned to Anaheim in 2017.
  • WonderCon has a reputation as a fun and friendly convention and is one of the best comic conventions on the West Coast. Like its sister show Comic-Con in San Diego, WonderCon features movie and television sneak peeks, comics, an expansive exhibit hall, and an on-stage costume competition known as the Masquerade.
  • This year, some of the presentations included NBC Universal, Warner Bros. Discovery, Toei Doga Entertainment, Fox, Funko, BANDAI NAMCO, AMC Networks, and Paramount+.
  • Among the WonderCon 2023 special guests were award-winning writers and artists from the world of popular arts including Tom King, Mingjue Helen Chen, Jenny Frison, Mark Evanier, and James Rollins, to name just a few.
  • WonderCon is produced and operated by San Diego Comic Convention who also organizes Comic-Con, the largest comic book and popular arts convention in the world, according to Guinness World Records.
  • According to the most recent data, 53% of WonderCon attendees are under the age of 30 years. • Comic-Con Museum, winner of the Best Pop Culture Museum in the 2023 USA TODAY 10Best Readers’ Choice Awards, will also be in attendance with both panel presentations and at booth #1009 in the Exhibit Hall.
  • Follow WonderCon on social media: Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook, and use the official hashtags: #WonderCon #WonderCon23 #WC2023

Maybe next time

Hopefully next year I will be able to attend. It looks like I missed a good con this year. I am especially sad to have missed the Funko Fun House Booth with Clown Freddy Funko as the themed pop. On the upside, I was able to get some of the WonderCon exclusive pops and Loungefly online. You can too as some are still available.

Did you get to attend WonderCon 2023? Or do you have a favorite con you like to go to?  If so let me know in the comments below. Catch ya on the B side!!
