The Walking Dead: Self Help

How far would you go to stay alive of there was an apocalypse? Last season we met Abraham, Eugene, and their crew, on a mission to get to Washington. Eugene, part of a top-secret team of scientists, needs to get to D.C. in order to help put an end to the zombie apocalypse. Abraham leading this mission is relentless and headstrong. He is determined to serve his purpose which is to get Eugene to D.C. Nothing will stop him, not the bus crash, injuries, or the herds of walkers they need to plow through. A fight ensues between Glen and Abraham regarding the safety of the group and then the truth hits the group like a ton of bricks. Eugene, the odd, yet endearing could-be-hero of the apocalypse confesses it was all a lie.

Three strikes and your out, or in Eugene’s case it was three punches from Abraham and it was lights out for him. Does our mullet loving Eugene survive the blows he took to his head, we’ll have to wait and see. He may want to stay knocked out for a while, at least until the group calms down, especially Abraham.

This makes sense as to why he sabotaged the bus, which caused a horrible accident. Luckily, no one was severely hurt or worse. While in the library, Abraham and Rosita are getting it on, and Eugene is standing behind the bookshelf watching them. That raises a creepy flag, and Tara catches him, and shortly after he confesses to Tara that he deliberately rigged the bus to not work properly. I don’t think he was quite aware of the potential damage that could have happened. Still not understanding the reason why Eugene sabotaged the bus, she drops the subject and tells Eugene she won’t tell the others. She believes like the others do that Eugene could be the key to help them get their world back to some type of normalcy. Eugene was a symbol of hope for them, and militant Abraham was leading the pack. Sine it was just Eugene’s self-preservation that caused him to fabricate such an elaborate lie, what will happen to the group? Will they go back and rejoin with Rick?

So as it turns out our mullet-loving wannabe scientist, who will save the world, is a very smart survivor and a great liar. However, since the start of the apocalypse we’ve seen far worse like the cannibals, the Governor, and the rapist cops.  Now it remains to be seen how the group will deal with him and what does this mean for Abraham.

This week we got to see a little of Abraham’s back story and how he met Eugene. Having lost who I presume was his wife and kids, Abraham was about to take his own life, when he hears Eugene running from a few walkers in need of help. Abraham kills the walkers then as he’s walking away, Eugene yells out he’s on a mission. For a military guy like Abraham, those were the words he needed to hear. Taking his own life no longer became an option. It then became about the mission.

Would you forgive Eugene for his lie? What’s next for Abraham?
