The sequel for Underworld: Awakening is already in production, and two actors had been confirmed to reprise their roles. Kate Beckinsale and Theo James will return in the fifth film as Selene and David.
Selene, played by Beckinsale, is a vampire working as a Death Dealer—killing Lycans (Werewolves). She later on became the first Vampire-Corvinus Strain Hybrid.
David’s, played by James, appeared in Underworld: Awakening as the son of Thomas—leader of one of the remaining vampire covens. He was orginally born as pure-blooded vampire, but later on became a Vampire-Corvinus Strain Hybrid.
There is no confirmation if Scott Speedman, who played the role of Michael Corvin in Underworld and Underworld: Evolution, will reprise his role. Corvin’s character is a modern-day descendant of Corvinus clan and the lover of Selene.
We reported to you earlier that the latest installment of the successful franchise will be focusing on a new and younger generation of vampires and werewolves.
In addition to that, the fifth installment will follow Selene and Corvin’s hybrid daughter, Eve. She will be the film’s protagonist.
With these reports swirling over social media about a younger movement in the franchise it has led most to think that Speedman will no longer return for his hybrid role.
There’s been ongoing discussions on the IMDb message board about Speedman needing to return in the franchise movie.
Darko-Magick commented, “Since his departure from the franchise it hasn’t been the same. People go on about Kate, but without the both of them it doesn’t work.”
“We need a finale film with them to finalize everything, before they take the franchise in a different direction,” Magick added.
“They have to tie the ending of Awakening in a bow…it would be dumb if they didn’t,” Bu54Lb wrote.
RjanaR shared a post about understanding Speedman’s decision if he isn’t going to reprise Corvin’s character.”Sure he was a catalyst for a lot of the story but anything regarding his character was cut from the original movie.”
“And while he was given more action in the second movie he still needed just as much rescuing. All the talk about the hybrids (Michael and Eve) being the most powerful creatures yet they constantly get their butts kicked,” RjanaR added.
The movie will shoot in Prague this October and is directed by Anna Foerster.
