The Winchesters Episodes 2 & 3 Review

In the latest episodes of The Winchesters, teach your children well and you’re lost little girl continue the story so far… Watching the story behind our beloved Winchester brothers, was not the story I wanted, but it’s quickly become the story I needed. I love the fact that we get Dean (Jensen Ackles) being our story teller, it brings it all together.

Teach Your Children Well

In episode two, Teach your children well, we are in a very 70s vibey commune where people are just disappearing. Considering the drugs and free love that is flowing it’s no wonder no one picks up on it, that is until Mary (Meg Donnelly) and crew get involved. Carlos (Jojo Fleites) looks as if he is ready to join the commune and is ready for anything, which includes clothes and all for the gang. Latika (Nida Khurshid) is the wise and cool girl we all want on our side, with the knowledge that seems far beyond her years. I mean how can they seem to find all this information on all these monsters including new monsters, The Akrida.

We hear about the Akrida, the creepiest monsters to date it seems, in episode one, and they keep slowly exploring it through the most recent episodes. We all learn that John (Drake Rodger) has been searching for his dad (just like the brothers) and even found the cool clubhouse, The Men of Letters, hideout, or one of them.

Nothing beyond scary seems to happen in Teach your children well, it’s very much like early Supernatural episodes, trying to find their footing. Where some may want to leave the show, we all know (unpopular opinion here) that Supernatural didn’t find its groove till almost season four.

You’re Lost, Little Girl

Episode three of the season has Mary and the crew starting to find their footing. They can find their footing thanks to Ada Monroe (Demetria McKinney) who’s their witchy secret weapon. Back in episode one when we first meet Ada, she gets possessed by a demon. Ada owns a bookshop and has a few skills of her own, like the ability to see what the demon that had possessed her, and the thoughts that have stuck around inside her mind. Ada makes some tea and recites a spell of sorts and she is in trance and scribbling down all that she can.

And this helps how is what you are now asking?!?

Well if they can see what the demons are after, and where they have been, they can fix the demon box to trap The Akrida and then some.

At the beginning of the episode, a little girl, Mary’s neighbor goes missing. We find out John had an ex-fiance who is now a cop, and that there is a boogeyman Bori Baba, that takes what he wants.  Latika our bookworm, recalls hearing stories as a girl back in India and begins calling friends and such back home to learn more of the tale. Only we seem to learn more than we bargained for when we “know” her parents are dead but as a last resort she appears to call home for how to kill the Bori Baba.

Meanwhile, while Mary and John are trying to keep Ford safe (the neighbor’s other child) Carlos and Ada go on a stakeout of their own.

Ada brings a bonsai tree with her and is tending to it and being as zen as one can be when the demon they’ve been watching shows up. Fear, not Los, Ada is quiet, twisted, and calculated on how to get the answers needed. In talking to the demon they find out that The Akrida are being brought together with demons and more by a woman. The demon thinks all is done and he is being sent back to hell when suddenly Ada traps him in the bonsai! Yep, our quiet little witch has some cool dark skills.

Back in Lawrence, Mary finds a way to get trapped with the kids in Bori Baba sack and hopes that John and Latika can get them out in time. Latika finds out, that the bag of Bori Baba traps you and holds you with the things you lost and want the most. The kids have had enough and get rid of the items that trapped them, but Mary’s a bit more complicated. She has baggage. Lots of it. She finds her dad’s hat when she gets in the sack and totally gave me Indian Jones vibes, but that isn’t what is trapping her inside. It’s the fact that she wants out. Not just out of the bag, but of the hunting business. John via a CB radio talks her through it and she comes back.

After a second, the bag seems to come to life and it’s Bori Baba itself. With no one inside it can be destroyed. John, like the hero he will become, takes his head off and the bag disappears, for good I might add.

Turns out, Mary just needed that first step.

Things We Must Learn This Season:

  • Who’s the mystery woman controlling the baddies
  • Is Latika what she seems
  • What else can Ada do
  • Why is Latikda lying about her parents
  • Who’s the mystery guy Mary goes to the movies with
