Friday was a special day for fans, cast, and crew of The Hunger Games. The epilogue scene is being filmed on location in Atlanta.
The Hunger Games series producer Nina Jacobsen tweeted a photo this morning from the state of Georgia where the epilogue scene is being filmed atop a hill at sunrise:

The photo purposely makes it difficult to see the characters, but presumably it’s Jennifer Lawrence (Katniss) and Josh Hutcherson (Peeta) who are in front of the cameras, accompanied by crew members as they prepare for the scene. Katniss and Peeta’s children are also supposed to be in this scene but we haven’t learned who’s playing them yet.
As written by The Hunger Games author Suzanne Collins, the epilogue takes place in a meadow and briefly catches up with Katniss and Peeta more than twenty years after their takedown of Panem. The couple now have a son and daughter, who are playing in the meadow during this brief chapter, and Katniss and Peeta are still contemplating how to tell their children about the past. Meanwhile, Katniss still struggles with all of the things she faced during the Games but tries to keep a positive frame of mind.
The epilogue, as it’s written in the book, doesn’t have any dialogue and it’s only three short pages. We hope to see it expanded for the film so viewers can enjoy their final few moments with Katniss before it’s all over.
Mockingjay Part 2 arrives in theaters this November. Filming for both Mockingjay movies wrapped last June — it’s not clear why they waited an entire extra year before filming the epilogue.
We’re getting closer and closer to the Nov. 20 release of The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2 and that means we’re starting to get more and more spoilers from the highly anticipated sequel! Over the past two days we’ve seen the first three stills from Mockingjay Part 2. In addition, the first Mockingjay Part 2 trailer is expected to arrive on Tuesday, June 9.
