Superman and Lois – Holding the Wrench Roundtable review

We are finally getting into the thick of it in Superman and Lois – Holding the Wrench. More details about Clark and Lois’s past and the daughter they almost had but this episode was all John Henry Irons (Wolé Parks). He is trying to learn and accept that Earth Prime Superman is not the Superman of his Earth.

Superman and Lois – Holding the Wrench Synopsis

Clark (Tyler Hoechlin) encourages Lois (Elizabeth Tulloch) to reach out for help after noticing her reaching a breaking point; Jonathan (Jordan Elsass) finds himself in a dangerous situation; Kyle (Erik Valdez) encourages Sarah (Inde Navarrette) to audition for the musical revue at school.

What did you ladies think of John going from Superman wanna be killer to freed man?

R: I knew he would change his mind sooner or later and that Lois would be the one being responsible for it. I mean, they’ve got this one huge ass connection because of being together in the other world. Glad that she was able to save Clark from being killed. Intense scene for sure. Agree with PB, this isn’t gonna be the last we’ve seen of John for sure. I can already see him joining Superman’s team one day. But first he needs some time for himself to think about everything that happened.

C: I’m glad honestly. I think he’s going to be a powerful ally, and his conversion from wanting to kill Superman to being a tentative ally, and all that entailed was incredibly impactful.

PB: I am not shocked they let him go. Clark always wants to believe the best in people even if they are the most evil. He is all about saving and second chances. I don’t think this is the last we will see of this guy.

Lois is in therapy, did you think that she might slip and tell her big secret?

C: No, not even with how upset she was. It’s her most preciously guarded secret, there’s no way she’d let it slip.

R: I don’t think she’ll drop this huge ass bomb. At least I can’t see her doing that. To be honest, it was kinda close in this episode with her having this big breakdown. But she still kept it her little secret and didn’t tell anything. Maybe she’ll tell someone completely different one day. Not sure about whom though.

PB:  I think the whole family could use some therapy at this point. That is a big secret to keep but I hope Lois can keep it quiet. I hope she can get some help with the loss of her child. I think finding out that on another Earth her daughter was alive really messed with Lois’s head and heart. But she is so hurt and mad at herself she is forgetting what she had right in front of her. The boys are alive and healthy. She needs to remember that.

Lois and Jonathan are struggling with being powerless, do you think this will come up again or one of them will get hurt because they don’t have powers?

PB: I still have hope that Jonathan’s powers will show up, later than sooner. I mean they can’t keep him powerless can they?! Lois always gets into trouble because that is just how she is programmed. Dive in head first blind and think about it later.

R: I’m sure this is going to happen a few more times during this season, but I’m optimistic that none of them will get badly hurt. I mean, look at Matt from The Vampire Diaries. He was like the only human in this world full of vampires and werewolves and he survived. This doesn’t mean that it’s always like that, but I’m more worried about Clark and Jordan at this point.

C: I think it will come up again, but like I said before I don’t think Jonathan is going to end this season without any kind of powers. He has rapidly become my favourite thing about this show, he is easily the most empathetic character.
As for Lois, like PB said, it’s just woven into the DNA of the character that she gets herself into trouble and Clark gets her out of it.

The duet of Jordan (Alex Garfin) and Sarah, super cute but will they just be a couple already?

C: It was cute, and I think they are going to end up an item, at least for a little bit. But I definitely get Clark/Chloe (Smallville) vibes from them, like there’s some cute flirting but they end up solid besties instead.

PB: I feel like sooner than later they will get together and he’s gonna tell her about his powers. I just know it’s gonna happen. He is gonna save her and has no choice but to tell her.

R: Definitely going to happen. Right now I think they’re making us wait on purpose. It’s pretty damn obvious at this point and they’re really cute together for sure. I would love to see this happen in one of the next couple episodes. Like PB already said, maybe Sarah is in danger and Jordan is going to save her ass. Then she would have no other choice. Nah I’m kidding.

Is Morgan Edge (Adam Rayner) a new super villain or working with Lex?

PB: He is kinda a Lex wanna be but I feel like something is about to reach the boiling point. A showdown with Superman or something. It’s coming for sure.

C: Well Edge is a well known villain in his own right, we’ve already seen him in the Arrow-verse over on Supergirl (played to the hilt by the wonderful Adrian Pasdar) and in Smallville played by the legendary Rutger Hauer. But this stuff with the X-Kryptonite is certainly more on a par with Lex’s usual shenanigans. I think he’s working solo, but I could be wrong.

R: The fact that we haven’t seen him for some time scares me. What’s he up to? Building an army is going to be a whole other level of drama. But he’s definitely up to something super bad. Villain against Superman in one of the final episodes maybe? This is gonna be huge.

Holding The Wrench – Overall rating:

PB: 7

R: 8 for this emotional rollercoaster and pretty damn good acting!

C: 8
